The right hand will play the complete chords while the left hand, as usual, will play the root note of each chord. If you are unsure of how to play different chord positions and inversions, you can find them in our free ebook of chords and inversions which can be downloaded instantly – just enter your name and email address in the right sidebar. This exercise is a chord progression in the key of C, it is quite simple but is good for those that are just beginning to learn chords and inversions.
The right hand will be playing the complete chords for 4 counts and the left hand will be playing just the root note of each chord.
Remember that chords that are played should be close to one another, they should all be played on the same zone or area of the keyboard.
You can find all of the diagrams of the chords in all of their positions and inversions in our free ebook of chords and inversions. Piano playing is one of the most satisfying hobbies you could possibly have, and the more you “do your own thing” on the piano in the way of arranging songs using chording techniques, the more fun it becomes! Here are five piano playing techniques that are so simple to do that even beginners can do them. One of the hardest things for those who are starting to learn to play the keyboard is finding ways to develop more strength, ability, and independence in the left hand. This is a classic exercise from Hanon which helps to improve agility, strength and finger independence.
This exercise can be used for pianists who play classical music as well as keyboardists who play modern and contemporary music.
We will now be learning a new way of playing with our left hand by playing the three notes of each chord in an arpeggio style. As well all know, music is the supreme art of combining sounds to transmit feelings and moods. Minimoog is one of the most favored synthesizers, which first came out in the beginning of the seventies. Like all of the synthesizers of its time, the Minimoog was monophonic which means that it could only play one note at a time. The designer of the Minimoog and the Moog Modular was Bob Moog, hence the names of the keyboards. I would like to show you several chord progression exercises that are very useful if you want to learn to play keyboard. The keyboard is one of the most versatile and beautiful instruments that exists and learning to play the keyboard or piano requires, as all instruments do, a great deal of time, dedication, desire and consistency.
Really, the best way to learn to play keyboard varies depending on each individual and what they desire to learn.
This is an instructional video about how to read music, the most common notes used in music and their respective time values.
Reading music is not necessarily vital, although understanding and reading rhythms and time values is very useful for rhythm training and for creating and improvising rhythms on the keyboard. There, you will be playing the beginning note, skip a step, play the next step, skip a half step, and play the next step-one, three, five.
If you analyze the D, E, and A chords, you will see that their simple major chords are not much more difficult.

It is easy to remember that the G flat, also  called the F sharp, chord occurs all on the black keys.
You can continue to learn different chords for a long time before you will have mastered them all.
There is so much music terminology for piano players that even experienced players come across new terms on piano music. This time we will not be using the root position of each chord but rather different inversions. The first round of this exercise we will be using certain positions and the second round will be using other chord positions. For example, the first time that it is played, to get from the C chord in the root position to the F chord in the 2 inversion, just move fingers 3 and 5 (notes E and G). The thumbs are finger 1, the index fingers are finger 2, the middle fingers are finger 3, the ring fingers are finger 4 and the pinky fingers are finger 5. As you become more and more proficient with chord applications, you may discover that other musicians want to play along with you. That not only leads to friendship and opportunities to play in some public forum, but also is a wonderful way to learn even more new techniques from the other members of the group! Music theory, which once looked like a giant puzzle to you, now gradually becomes self-evident as you understand more and more about music and how it all works. And the more you master chords and their implications, the easier music theory will become for you as well. There are hundreds or thousands of advanced techniques, and we will cover many of those in later posts, but today I want to focus on simple things that anyone can do to make their piano playing sound better and more interesting. In this video you will learn to play arpeggios on the left hand with the chords C, D, E, F, G, A, and B. This synthesizer was more convenient than Moog modular since it was very portable and well built and could easily be transported in tours. In 2002 Bob Moog released a newer version of the Minimoog that he called The Minimoog Voyager. Especially when a person is first starting to learn, they come upon many difficulties and frustrations with certain exercises.
Perhaps they want to learn classical piano, or basic piano to accompany their singing, or maybe someone just wants to learn the Blues. If you will look at the figure below, you can use the Home Keys position for a C major chord.
All you have to do is to use the same three notes-C, E, G - and play them in different position. Just remember the sequence of the scale and choose the first, third, and fifth tone in that scale.
The D flat, E flat, and A flat chords are such that you put your fingers on the black keys for the one and five position and on a white key for the third position.

These kind of piano and keyboard exercises will help you improve your transition from chord to chord.
The first finger will play the C note and will stay in this place while the other two fingers will play the notes F and A.
That is, the more you apply the techniques you know, the more new techniques will gradually become apparent.
I recall taking a music theory course in college after playing in a small group for a few years, and it was so easy I challenged the course after a couple weeks, and easily passed it.
Many of my students have no intention of ever playing in public, but want to play for their own relaxation after work, or just for fun with the family.
A melody can be produced by a human voice, by a guitar solo, or by other instruments such as a saxophone or a violin.
It is also very important to schedule in your day a determined and programmed time for practicing and learning.
Many people choose to learn how to play electronic music and learn techniques on the synthesizer. There are major and minor chords, diminished chords, inverted chords, augmented chords and more. Just put your right thumb on C, your middle finger on 3 which is E, and your pinkie on 5 which is G. For example below, you can play the E and G in the position they are on in the home keys, but use the C above middle C with them instead of middle C.
When you invert the chord, you will have to remember which keys were originally one, three, and five, just as always. As you can see in the figure below you would end up with a C-E flat-G for a minor chord compare to C major. Just because there are so many chords to learn, it does not mean you cannot get started on them right away.
Each of us has different needs and different goals, so what we do with our piano playing is entirely up to us. The truth is that there are so many reasons why a person would like to learn to play the keyboard or piano and this determines which way is the right way for that particular person to learn.
Remember that the scale went up: beginning note-step-step-half step-step-step-step-half step. When you count your step and half steps, you need to account for the third step being a half step lower. A chord can have more than three notes in it, but you are going to choose the beginning note, the third note, and the fifth note. Therefore, you would have beginning note-step-half step-step-step for the first five notes.
