Creating a learning environment where students experience successes through meaningful learning and character development. Play-based learning approach is characterised by the design of the school and classroom environments and the available teaching and learning resources to capture, sustain and extend the students’ enjoyable experience that helps them construct and reconstruct new meanings. While educational scholars have proposed various proponents and guiding principles of play-based learning approach, at West Spring we focus on 3 principles. Teacher-led play takes place in a structured lesson when teacher introduces a concept, topic for exploration, experimentation or investigation and provides opportunities for students to be creative problem solvers. Student-centred play takes place when student explores, experiments, investigates and be creative and self-directed team players.
For instance, in West Spring, we collaborate with Lego Education to bring Constructionism into the classrooms. Teacher-facilitated play takes place when teachers are involved in students’ interactions and learning. In addition to the pedagogic principles stated, West Spring Primary adopts five domains of PLAY during lessons. Our PLAY- based learning approach is delivered through these pedagogic principles and can take the form of any of the 5 PLAY domains.
The emphasis is on developing musical understanding of what the child hears and performs within the context of fun and engaging activities. An important concept for parents is that children learn musical skills by imitating someone.
The Music Intelligence Project™ (MIP) embraces all of the above principles as foundational concepts in promoting the best practices in early childhood music. I base my activities on the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum that I followed as a nursery and primary school teacher here in the UK, here are the Areas of Learning if you would like to read a bit more about it. At Children’s Village children explore the fields of mathematics, science and language through fun and exciting hands on activities.

Participants will be comfortable and confident in implementing play-based activities for a wide range of topics and standards in early childhood classrooms. Identify and evaluate play-based activities based on given situational circumstances; describing at least 3 elements of effectiveness.

Compare and contrast appropriate activities when given a description of a classroom audience and setting; describing how each activity would positively or negatively effect student learning. Plan play-based activities using a developed set of tools and strategies; justifying use of the activity by aligning to to standards, research, and other available resources . This is facilitated through the teacher who interweaves the student’s optimal experience with teaching and learning objectives. These principles are broadly categorised as: Teacher-led play, Student-centred play and Teacher-facilitated play.
In this type of lessons, the agenda and learning activities are usually determined and set by the teachers. Students can enjoy lessons outside the classrooms through music & drama as well as physical education lessons and ICT-enabled lessons. Thus, a PLAY lesson can be implemented through a combination of principles and take the form of a variety of domains. Whether it’s singing, moving, or listening to music, the enjoyment these experiences bring to children is unmistakable. Any human experience is more enjoyable when you know something about it, either as a participant or as an observer.
Researchers have shown that learning music provides unique developmental benefits to young children. Children need to learn music at an early age and the years between birth and age five are critical.
For example, songs are chosen and sung in the child’s ideal singing range, and rhythmic movements are kept simple to assure success. Factor, powered by ASTRA, works closely with bloggers and media outlets to announce play and toy industry information. This is one of those wonderful educational tools that your child will simply enjoy as a fun toy! The traveling schoolhouse has everything your little educator needs to begin class, including a working school bell. The working clock and bell allow for the pretend teacher to keep track of time, and help the pretend students get used to finishing assignments within a certain time frame. The pointer keeps the teacher in charge, and a calendar is provided, as is a dry erase board. The built-in, durable handle makes it portable, and the movable hands on the school clock help your young ones tell time. Since the figures and vehicle are semi-complex, this set might also be a perfect gift for adults and collectors, not just children.
In these lessons, the play resources are usually controlled by the teacher and teacher intervention is guided by pre-determined learning outcomes. Expanding the understanding of music through focused learning can open and enrich the child’s realm of exploration and play and, of course, fun. The learning emphasis is on the action or activity, or what the words of the song are about, and not on what can be learned in the music.

Art, sports, technology, games, cooking, music (you name it)—all become more fun and interesting when you know their basic concepts and skills.
Active and substantive music learning can directly enhance the development of those parts of the brain that control verbal competence, mathematical reasoning, memory, spatial understanding, and muscular control.
For example, if the child’s model for singing is out of tune, the child will learn to sing out of tune. All parents, regardless of musical skill, can play an important role in their child’s music learning experience.
The tri-fold kit improves early learning skills, and prepares your children for the social interactivity of real school, while also making them comfortable with a schoolroom setting. As the teacher manages the resources, time and space, checking of equipment and internet safety is also key during these lessons. Unfortunately, we can miss opportunities to capture the child’s natural interest in music learning.
This enhancement occurs because significant music learning is widely distributed in the brain, overlapping those structures that control general intelligence.
Focused, active, foundational music learning can impact the wiring of the brain, similar to the effect of language. A nurturing parent, whose smile, facial expressions, hugs, applause, and other signs of encouragement add to the excitement of learning music, can enhance any program of music learning. Grab your seat and let class begin as we take a look at exactly what your little teacher can expect.
They have succeeded once again, with the Doc McStuffins version of their second generation LeapPad learning tablet. No other learning activity engages so many senses, interconnects so many parts of the brain, and provides so much enjoyment. If a child does not have substantive music learning experiences at this time, their ability to develop these skills will diminish. Participating in music activities with your child is encouraging and enjoyable, and it presents opportunities for feedback as your child negotiates the trial-and-error process of learning to imitate performance models.
Small children love to build tracks just as much as adults, maybe with only a little less precision.
