A typing game that looks like Pac-Man, students type the letters to guide Keyman to collect the dots and avoid the ghosts. This site has 20+ typing games that vary in difficulty and have themes similar to popular iPad apps.
If you are looking for a non-web based typing program that tracks students, I recommend Type to Learn 4.
Even though summer is only 5 school days away, I am already starting to think about next fall. If you have tried searching for quality sites for Preschoolers, you might share some of my frustrations with what is out there.
I am always on the look out for online activities that will challenge my students to use their brains and think outside the box. Most everyone wants to get their work done as quickly as possible, so that they'll have time to do things that are more fun! Color-coded typing keyboard helps students keep their eyes on the chart instead of their fingers or the screen so they learn how to touch type fast.
This book is better than a learn to type program because it uses a brain compatible method. Your child will learn to type using Biblical principles, Scripture verses, and Christian history. Bible Type's color-coded typing keyboard on each chart in the book helps your child easily see the correct fingering of each new key. January 23, 2014 By Susan Williams 3 Comments Dysgraphia is a learning disability that affects writing.
I wanted to make sure he had strong keyboarding skills so over time he could begin to think less about the act of typing and more about getting his thoughts out of his head and onto the screen. We have tried other keyboarding programs before but most have been too busy, trying to use a game format or confusing graphics to teach basic typing skills. My son struggles with motor skills (that’s why holding a pencil correctly is a challenge) so it only made sense to me that adding in a physical Guide would help him maintain the proper hand positioning AND allow him to build muscle memory while practicing the correct key strokes. If you take a look at this image you will see they use colors for each finger and for the corresponding keys that finger should strike. By having this image on the screen it encourages the student to keep their eyes on the screen rather than looking down at their hands. This program is designed to build skills slowly but surely through practice and repetition.
Many other typing programs we had tried focused on achieving certain levels and winning points or tokens. I know when I look at new programs I have a few basic questions – cost and ease of use are at the top of the list! The program claims to be designed for children ages 8 and up and the video clip mentions ages 7-14. Because the Finger Guides are part of the program this is a program you order and receive in the mail (the Finger Guides and a disk with the program materials). We know that not every program will work for every student, but if you would like to learn more to see if this might be a fit for your child, please visit the Keyboard Classroom website.
Susan WilliamsAs a veteran educator I am always looking for new ways to bring learning to life for my family.
The best class I took in high school was good old Typing – on an actual typewriter (at least it was electric). This book includes 103 topics every homeschool mom needs to know, it is useful throughout the homeschool years, and WE helped to write it! This site has websites, teaching ideas and templates that I have used, created, or modified to use with my Pre-K to 6th grade computer classes as I strive to help them connect the dots of technology in their life. I knew that it was a crucial skill that students today need to have, but wasn't sure how to approach it.

It only displays one line of text at a time and has an excellent color-coded keyboard that can be hidden or displayed depending on the students typing ability.
The games are engaging and challenging, but the placement of ads among the games may result in students clicking on something unintentionally. When I started teaching technology classes my school already had a keyboarding program, but I soon realized that the program was outdated and not user friendly.
Great for all learning styles and abilities -- whether your child has superior reading skills or dyslexia -- whether your child is bright or challenged -- Bible Type has proven superiority. Bible Type allows students to learn to type at their own individual pace while ensuring both speed and accuracy for each chart in the book.
Contact the seller- opens in a new window or tab and request a shipping method to your location. I believe this program is appropriate for the stated ages and even for older teens if they need to solidify their keyboarding skills. Keyboarding is really an important skill needs to be mastered by everyone as we are living in the modern age of technology. As I honed my ability to teaching keyboarding, I have found many useful resources on the internet to share! I began to research and settled on Type to Learn 4 because it focuses on speed and accuracy.
If you reside in an EU member state besides UK, import VAT on this purchase is not recoverable. Now that my oldest is 10 yrs old I’ve been thinking about teaching him keyboarding skills. The program is networked (there is also a web-based version) and the reports that it generates are useful to me, as well as students and parents. I’m pinning this to my homeschool board so I can come back to it when selecting our curriculum for this fall.
