This is a replacement key for the Protecta Mouse Bait Station, Protecta Mouse RTU, Protecta LP Rat Bait Station, and the Protecta Landscape Bait Stations.
We recently bought a house that the prior owner had left six Protecta bait stations around, but no key to open them. I recently purchased some keys for bait stations to check on the people that were doing my pest control. Save Money!  This kit includes a case of Protecta LP Rat Bait Stations (6 stations), one bait station key and one 4lb. Although difficult to see, since they were under our pier & beam house, we knew we had a huge infestation of rats.

DESCRIPTION: The Protecta LP rat bait station is a triangular shaped bait station that fits in corners and along walls where rodents travel.
USE: Place station near baseboards, corners, or in spaces where rodents are likely to travel. I bought a three pack of the Protecta LP traps to deal with a chipmunk problem around my New England colonial house, and it worked perfect. If you purchase the poison blocks, purchase bait stations to go with them even if you don't have animals or children that might be harmed by the poison itself. The horizontal bar allows me to put the bait boxes where my irrigation system would otherwise wet the bait.

My only complaint is that they only send one key to opent the stations, even though you get 12 stations in the box.
They work well, however I wish I ordered the larger size stations or the landscape rock bait stations.
AYou can use the tamper resistant stations like Protecta Mouse and bait indoors but like you suggested, the rodents can indeed crawl into inaccessible areas and die and they will definitely leave an odor behind. I previously used other mouse bait stations, but raccoons found a way to remove the bait to eat it by tossing the station around until the bait came loose from the pegs and fell out from the exit and entrance holes. We've had trouble with mice for the last few years, tried all store items, snap traps, glue traps, bait, etc.
AThe Protecta RTU Mouse Bait Station is a small, sturdy bait station that can be used indoors and outdoors with no problem.
AWe would recommend relocating the Protecta RTU bait station in an area that is not as accessible to your animals to avoid any issues in the future. AThere are some instances when rodents can be resistant to a certain active ingredient in a bait and there may be instances where the rodents will avoid the bait all together (bait is old or spoiled, too many alternate food sources are available).
With the bait station we have gained control of our situation while keeping my cats and dog safe.
You can purchase a key for the Protecta RTU on our website by clicking on the link below or by using the search feature on our website and searching the word KEY.
On the other hand, it would be nice if the "key" had more leverage available to open the station, a longer handle would do the trick.

Many of the rats crawl around in the open during their last hours, making them easy prey for pets or wild predators. Its Low Profile makes it ideal to use indoors under pallets and in other tight baiting locations. Rodents will enter stations out of curiosity, and the presence of rodenticide baits placed inside the station. Don't be an idiot like I was and purchase only the poison blocks without purchasing these bait stations. The lock tabs protects my neighbors and my dogs if they were to get into the banks where the traps are located.
The Protecta LP will hold 3 bait blocks on your choice of vertical or horizontal rods (both types of rods come with the station). The key probalby costs about 2 cents to make and is configured to be such that it woudl be hard to use a screwdriver to open the boxes. I may have to buy that again and put one block of each in these traps to see if my suspicions of the deer mice not being attracted to this bait are correct. Critters have munched on the bait in most of the boxes, so hopefully my critter problem will come to a big halt. We always recommend using snap traps or glueboards indoors if the rodents have already made their way inside and we recommend using the bait outdoors to prevent rodents from taking up resident inside the structure.
At the first sign of a dropping we use the bait box under the kitchen and bath sinks, under the stove and in the pantry. Needed something to help keep the dog from eating the bait and to a lesser extent the pesky squirrels. Unless the openings are chewed shut or the station will not close, there is no reason to replace the station. We recommend changing to a bait with a different active ingredient so that you will have fresh bait and you can avoid any issues with resistance. I was going to buy a new bait station just to get another key, but the price of this replacement key was less than a bait station.
I also have a larger rat box probably from another brand which takes a very slightly larger key. It required some dexterity in holding the station, opening it for first time use and snapping it shut because the key has little leverage in opening the snap locks which are tight and rightly so.
You will receive one key with each case of stations, and you can order additional keys as needed. I found 5 more dead adult rats in their nest; the nest continued under a concrete slab so there may be been more in there.
The last straw was when there were 3 norway rats eating the chicken food right out of the feeder !!
The Protecta LP rat bait station locks automatically when closed and uses a special 2-prong key to open.
With the Protecta LP bait station, there is a steel rod that holds the bait in place and the chipmunks have no chance of removing the bait. The amount of poison I've gone through since purchasing the bait stations has dropped to a tenth of what it was (the rats were hording) and the poison has been, subjectively, more effective--we live in a rural area and I think new rats find the poison right away whereas before if another rat had collected it all, I had to put more down for new rats to find.

I taped the opening key to a long piece of pvc pipe so I can tap the box and open it at a distance above the box.
It is great because you need a key to open it so people (kids especially) can not open it up or tamper with it. Years of peanut pellets, peanut butter, warafrin bait, traps, smoke bombs, and water hoses have finally come to an end.
With Contrac and the bait stations, I set them out, in areas where I saw the mice, and also the droppings. About 10 seconds with some pliers made it fit the rat box and still work fine with the smaller ones. This is a concern I have for the time I have to refill the station after the rodents have been at it.
I suspect there were many other dead rats in other nests in an overgrown area of my neighbor's yard but I couldn't access it to remove any dead animals.
For those that don't know: stations can be opened using two flat screwdrivers to pop up one side at a time.
I had my traps baited and out for 10+ days and only one had any evidence of the bait being gnawed (very little).
Boxes are locked for safety and bait does not smell - you are not "catching" the mice, just sending them outside in search of water where they die. We bougth local hardware traps and bait repeateadly, but every time we went up, we found mouse tracks, empty traps, and the bait rolled up into balls and hidden here and there among dish towels, bedding, or pots and pans.
You should also purchase tamper resistant bait stations (with a high quality bait) to use around the perimeter of your home so you can eliminate the mice outdoors before they have a chance to look for a way in. Also it would be nice if there was a transparent window to see if any of the bait had been eaten or not. Great buy - I would recomend buying the Contrac blocks and the 3 pack of Protecta bait stations as a package - as you will get a better price.
I like the stations and the bait but left with a bad feeling about them looking to nickel and dime me for an extra key.

The Protecta RTU Mouse bait station locks automatically when closed and uses a special 2-prong key to open to keep children and non-target animals safe.
After 2 weeks and 8 stations setup each with 2 blox, 5 of the 8 had a decent amount of poison eaten and only 3 were untouched. Company is great to work with, fast delivery, and the mouse stations are great, safe, easy to open, and above all, with Contrac, they WORK! But I feel very safe knowing our dogs can't break into these stations to get at the poison, so it's worth the struggle and once I figured out how to open them, it wasn't a problem.
