Defining Resource Constraints for a Production Family
Previous Topic  Next Topic

The resource constraints tab is a way to capture what constrains a supplier from producing more parts. The resource constraints tab contains required fields as highlighted in yellow if the production family demand to maximum capacity ratio is greater than 85%.  Comment fields provide a collaborative environment between a customer and his supplier.

To define resource constraints for a production family:

  1. Select the  Resource Constraints tab:
  2. Select Yes or No to define whether the resources for this production family are shared with other customers.
  3. Using the Bottleneck Resource comment field, describe the bottle neck resource that limits your capacity.
  4. Using the Capacity Constraint Supplier comment field, a supplier can provide additional information to his customer regarding capacity constraints.
  5. Using the Capacity Constraint Customer comment field, a customer can provide feedback to the supplier regarding capacity constraints.
  6. Using the Possible Capacity Resolution comment field, describe a capacity growth plan to address capacity constraints within the supplying environment.
  7. Using the Incremental Growth Multiple field, input how the planned capacity constraint resolution would impact the growth multiple.
  8. Using the Lead-Time to Add Growth Multiple, input the lead time necessary to implement the planned capacity constraint resolution.  Choose appropriate units from the drop down menu.
  9. Using the Potential Max Capacity field, describe the potential maximum capacity after implementation of the capacity constraint resolution.
  10. Click Lead-Time Defaults tab if you want to store lead time defaults for the Production Family. See Using a Production Family to Set Lead Time Defaults.
  11. Or Click Create if lead time defaults are not applicable for the production family.
