Float Code
Previous Topic  Next Topic

The float code defines the float pattern. Float is the amount of work-in-process inventory between two manufacturing operations, especially in repetitive manufacturing. Float can be measured in time or a fixed quantity. Float is time based safety stock. The float pattern combines with the MRP pattern to determine the required minimum inventory for each time period.

Term

Description

Adopt Date

When the float pattern will be adopted.

Minimum Float

The minimum amount of time based safety stock required in the frozen period. If inventory drops below this level, a shortage will be created.

In-House Float

Amount of float required in house. In-house float + in-yard float = total float outside of the frozen period.

In-Yard Float

Amount of float required in yard. In-house float + in-yard float = total float outside of the frozen period.
