Question: How can FUUCI operate without money?
Answer: Because FUUCI does not exist in
the physical world,
there is no need for a janitor.
The First UU Church of the Internet exists only
in
cyber-space.
Everything about this organization is completely weightless.
There is not even any paper associated with FUUCI.
We are human persons (clearly not weightless
ourselves)
sitting in front of our own personal computers,
all over the world, communicating by means of the Internet.
Our Facebook Page, Facebook profiles and
pictures, website,
cyber-sermons,
etc.
exist only in electronic form,
which means they could exist in principle
in any or all of the computers we are using.
Cyber-sermons are weightless.
And they spread over the surface of the Earth
literally with the speed of light,
which can go completely around the Earth
seven times in one second.
Because FUUCI exists only in electronic form,
all costs associated with brick-and-mortar churches
simply do not occur:
No cost for constructing a building.
No utilities to pay: No heating, cooling, water, or electricity.
No office staff to handle paper.
FUUCI does not even have a telephone.
Our organization can be completely decentralized.
Each personal computer could do everything.
The only costs associated with this organization
are already being paid by each computer owner:
Each center of communications is owned and operated individually.
We pay our local electric companies
for the electricity to run our computers.
And any cost of Internet access is paid by each person
who can read these words on any screen.
And all the activities of FUUCI are conducted
by volunteers.
The cyber-sermons are created by people
who have something to offer the rest of the world.
The authors share their ideas without being paid any money.
And because we are a money-free operation,
there is simply no need for bookkeeping.
Whenever organizations receive and disburse money,
someone must keep track of it all.
There must be some kind of budget,
a checking account, annual accounting, etc.
When everything is simply given away,
there is no possibility of fiscal mismanagement or corruption.
It is not certain that this level of idealism
can continue indefinitely.
But at least we will keep it as simple as possible.
Instead of sending money to support FUUCI,
you can volunteer to carry out some of the functions
on your own home computer,
sitting right there in your chair, wherever you are in the world.
You can forward cyber-sermons
to other people anywhere in the world.
The individual computers form the network for distributing ideas.
There is no limit to the
number of people
who can benefit from an idea
originating in the mind of
any one of us.
No money needs to be spent on advertising,
because individual members
are the best ambassadors for FUUCI.
Your personal recommendations to people you already know
will have much more power than any abstract advertising claims.
So if you have the urge to send money,
RESIST THAT URGE !
Instead, ask yourself how FUUCI could become more effective.
And then proceed to do whatever you think would be beneficial.
For example, look thru all your friends on
Facebook.
Which of these people might appreciate FUUCI?
Your electronic 'word-of-mouth' will do the work of FUUCI.
If your computer has an address book,
which of these people should join Facebook and
FUUCI?
