OUR EXISTENTIAL PREDICAMENT:
LONELINESS, DEPRESSION, ANXIETY, & DEATH

ALL FIVE EDITIONS.

The first edition of this book was actually a collection of several small booklets,
which appeared in the 1970s as The Existential Freedom Series.

In 1989 the Second Edition appeared with the title:
The Human Predicament: Loneliness, Depression, Anxiety, & Death.

In 1995 the Third Edition was published, called:
Our Existential Predicament: Loneliness, Depression, Anxiety, & Death.

In 2001 the Fourth Edition was published, also called:
Our Existential Predicament: Loneliness, Depression, Anxiety, & Death.

In 2006 the Fifth Edition was published, also called:
Our Existential Predicament: Loneliness, Depression, Anxiety, & Death.

      Thanks to readers,
this book has remained in print for over 35 years.

PAGINATION.

Ever since the 3rd edition, the page numbers have remained the same.
This is one indication of how little the text has changed

from one edition to the next.
The content remains basically the same,
even tho there are changes in style and other details on every page.

The 1995 edition (Third Edition) also included page numbers
which began over again for each chapter.
These have been dropped from the Fourth and later Editions.
Thus, if you buy just the chapter on death,
you will discover that it begins with page 181.
Having just one system of numbering the pages
will eliminate any ambiguity in page references.

THE TEXT IS COMPLETELY RE-SET IN NEW TYPE-FACES.

A major improvement in the appearance of the Fourth and later editions
is that the text has been completely re-set with new fonts,
a different font for each chapter.
This greatly improves the appearance of the book.
And it should help readers to remember which chapter they are reading.

OUR EXISTENTIAL PREDICAMENT REMAINS A BOOK
FOR A VERY SPECIALIZED AUDIENCE OF READERS.

Only a very few people who learn that this book exists
are interested in reading it.
But the fact that in each generation of readers
there are a few who want to explore our Existential Malaise
is good enough reason to keep it in print.

NEW PRICE FOR THE NEW EDITION.

The price of each successive edition
has been higher than the one before.
One fact of life is the inflation of the US dollar,
which loses some of its value each year.
But Existential Books has been able to keep the original price
of each edition constant thru-out the years it was for sale.

The wholesale price for the Fifth Edition (2006) is $45.
The suggested retail price is an astonishing $100.
This was necessary because of the high mark-up required by Amazon.
