If you need help learning the keyboard keys use this piano notes chart to help memorize the notes. Music on a page is made up of a combination of notes and rests.  Notes are what you play, rests are when you don’t play.
The following series of two measure phrases show note and rest values with the count for each measure.  See “What Are Drum Fills and How Are They Played?” to review how measures are counted.
For a great example of whole notes, listen to the beginning of the song “Hush” by Deep Purple from the album “The Very Best of Deep Purple” with the great drummer Ian Paice.
As with the half rests, 4 quarter rests, 8 eighth rests and 16 sixteenth rests could all be replaced with one whole rest. This is step one of learning how to read drum music.  Do you see why some musicians call it “reading fly crap”? A page of music has a lot of symbols and notations that are easily interpreted when you know a few basics. When you learn how to read music, you also need to know the rhythm a piece should be played.
Note: This simple explanation only applies when the top number is 4 and under- simple time. A sharp () is a sign which is written in front of a note and raises the pitch of that note by one half-step.
The flat, sharp and natural symbols are referred to as accidentals and only affect the note in the same octave in which it has been written. There are times when a composer may want you to flat (or sharpen, #) all of the B’s, for example, in a particular piece. As you can see, the speed notation is the composer’s attempt to convey the feel at which the piece should be played. Playing the piano seeks to express and convey emotion and feeling through the music; so many times the composer will user emotional words and leaves it up to the musician to translate that into an appropriate tempo.
The numbers above the notes on the treble staff are typically for the right hand and numbers about the notes on the bass staff. Liberace would always play his piano with ascending or descending notes or keys in a sweeping motion using his thumb or other finger running it right down or up the piano keyboard in very fast motion. I am beginner and find it damn easy to follow though I may have to read many times with practical to digest the whole lecture.
Piano notes for kids in the song "The Music Alphabet" can help beginners relate note reading to the piano keyboard! I wrote this little song for someone who is brand-new to note reading and even the names of the piano keys, but who has an analytical mind, and finds exercises intriguing rather than tedious!

When learning a new instrument, be it guitar, piano, drums or any other, the student has the option of learning to read the notation or playing solely by ear. Throughout my years of teaching I have come to understand that being able to read drum set notation paves the way for enhanced productivity in drumming lessons and personal advancement with the instrument. Understanding drum set notation can help the student control the count, increase muscle memory, and it can be instrumental in developing multi-limb independence. Although drum set notation is not standardized, the beats and patterns that make up drumming music are still organized in a very manageable way. Muscle memory assists drummers in playing complex patterns by relieving the brain of performing certain tasks. As drum beats and patterns gain complexity they may require the use of more limbs, such as a hi-hat count or a left foot clave.  Seeing beats written out allows the student to break the pattern down and focus on each note separately.
Taking the time to learn to read music right away will aid you in becoming a more advanced player, faster. You will still come across sticking patterns that confuse you, but your knowledge of sight-reading will allow you to take baby steps through them.

The purpose of this music game is to help beginner pianists learn how to read sheet music and remember the names for all the keys. The Staff with the Treble Clef combined with the Bass Clef make what’s called the Grand Staff.
They do not affect the same note in other octaves unless they have been labeled with an accidental. In such a case there is a shortcut that eliminates the necessity for using a flat symbol every time a B appears.

Also, IF YOU ARE ASKING FOR MUSIC THAT IS NOT IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN, YOUR REQUEST WILL BE IGNORED. Although learning by ear may be easiest or quickest for a beginner, I am a strong believer that learning to read the notation leads to a more holistic understanding of the instrument.

Using quarter notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes and so on, any beat can be broken down into simple parts or sections. After understanding how each note works on their own and in relation to one another they can once again be brought together. You will develop new limb independence and coordination to eventually master each and every pattern you may find.
Whether you are learning to play the piano through the classic method or the chord method, you’ll have to be familiar with how to read music. This is why a natural is needed, just in case you happen to need the same note again in the same octave but without any variation in tone.
In some case, the dynamic level is related to the mood; in other cases the mark is much more direct.
Some music teachers focus solely on the basics of how to play; in my lessons I focus not only on the basics of drumming, but I also place emphasis on sight reading drum set and rhythmic notation along with proper counting and steady breathing techniques to make the student a more well-rounded drummer. Being able to visualize the beats allows the student to see where the count is happening and control it better.
Through repetition the beat can be sped up to a reasonable tempo where multi-limb independence is improved. Lastly: so, you’ve decided you want to learn the drums and now you have my book (or any other) in front of you; how are you going to remember all the patterns, beats and exercises on your own, if you don’t learn to read it! David’s drumming manual designed to assist new drummers; “David Milwain’s Drum Book”, is now available on-line and in select Long and McQuade music retailers. To cancel a flat or sharp, a natural ( ) is placed on the staff before the note it is to affect or when a new measure begins.
They are generally at the beginning of a measure (and at the beginning of the music) and usually located in the space between the treble and bass staffs. Without being able to understand the count, it is much more difficult to play in time at a constant tempo. Being able to read the beat rather than trying to remember it helps the student perform the same correct beat each time.
Without being able to read drum set notation complex rhythms may be more difficult to piece together coherently. If the same note is always going to be sharp or flat, music writers use key signatures to indicate once and for all (see below). Once set, it’s in effect until another dynamic symbol is display or for the entire piece. C sharp and D flat are the same key and will produce the same note when played on a keyboard.
