Does any body fancy drawing a piano note name cut out like the one my daughter made in this photo below. When first  sold (in the early 90's), it came with a keyboard which had an rs-232 - like serial interface instead of midi and the software ran under MS-Dos! Hopefully, Piano booster can grow to fulfil the potential that this early package was not able to deliver. I have a few changes, perhaps it should be on two pages and then we could write instructions on the sheet. This sheet can be used with Piano Booster to label the names of each note on your piano keyboard. I also think it should have two stave's that run right across the two pages with a treble and base clef so that it looks more like standard piano music. The move from one white key to the next is called a full step if there is a black note between them. First, the key signature, which is located between the time signature and the clef sign, can let you know whether notes will be natural, sharp or flat. The other way to determine if a note is going to be sharp, flat, or natural was mentioned above. The piano's notes, about which you've already gained some knowledge by reading this article. In your piano lesson you should also receive critiques of your technique, playing ability and progress. You can find a qualified piano teacher through your local university, college, church or publication, or perhaps you know a family friend who may be interested in teaching you how to play the piano.
The following articles and web pages can help you learn to read music and, in the process, learn how to associate the keys on the piano with the notes on the music. Dotted note: One dot lengthens the note by one-half its value, two dots by three-quarters and so on.
The middle white key on the piano is called "middle C." Going up the scale from C, the rest are D, E, F, G, A, B, and they start again with C. The notes in a song or scale are written on a "staff." These are the series of lines and spaces that you've probably seen on a piece of music. This can really help beginners who want to learn to read music and it works especially well now I have included the note names in the next release. I found these to be enormously helpful in forming the neural pathways needed to auto associate the printed staves with both note locations on the keyboard AND fingers to use. Towards the end it worked with Windows and any midi keyboard, which is the one that I still have and occasionally use. Certainly it did not have the active community forum around it and so was not able to tap in to collaborative development resources. Whether you play the piano for its romanticism, the beauty of the pieces that can be played, or because your parents are forcing you to do it (lucky you), you need to keep in mind that playing an instrument requires hard work and dedication. While a keyboard follows the same basic rules you use to play the piano, keyboards often have less keys and achieve a different sound. Everyone has to start somewhere when learning to play the piano; we are going to start with Middle C. This is because some sharp and flat notes are actually played on the same key as natural notes.
Determining whether the keys you play will be sharp or flat can be done in a few different ways. Throughout the entire piece, the B will be flat unless otherwise noted by a natural or a sharp sign will be located next to the specific note.
This is because the F Major scale is what determines what the key signature is going to be. A sharp, natural or flat symbol will sometimes appear before a note to indicate how you should play it. Not only do scales help improve memorization of notes and key location, but they also help you to improve tone, quality, intonation, technique and stylization. The five staff lines and four intervening spaces correspond to pitches of the diatonic scale - the higher the note on the staff the higher its pitch - which pitch is meant by a given line or space is defined by the clef, the ''leftmost'' symbol on a staff.
They usually reflect the natural rhythmic grouping of notes, for example, several notes which are to be sung to one beat. An understanding of musical notes and their values is the foundation for learning any instrument. If you look at the keyboard on a piano, you'll see that the keys repeat their order every eighth white key. The notes from any C on the keyboard to the next C make up an "octave." It is so called because it contains eight keys, or eight notes.

It doesn't cost a penny, but if you love it and want to take it further, we've got piano courses galore for you to get up and running!
Sadly, it wasn't open source so when those who built it went on to other things, development and even sales of the system stopped. Nevertheless, if you have to get something smaller due to your current living accommodations, a keyboard will suffice for basic learning purposes and practicing requirements. Your keyboard should have a row of white piano keys interrupted by alternating sets of three and two black keys. Instead of the fourth note being flat, the seventh note of every scale, used to determine the sharp key signature, will be a sharp note. While some people are able to play the piano by ear (this means they can hear a song and can sit down and play it without knowing how to read a note of music), most people cannot do this.
Between lessons, or if you are teaching yourself, you will want to practice as often as possible. A sixteenth note looks similar to an eighth note, but has a double "tail." When two, three or four are joined, they are connected by a double bar.
Depending on your instructor, the price may cost anywhere from $10 dollars to $30 or $40 per lesson, or even more. Therefore, reading sheet music becomes an integral part of learning to play the piano for beginners. Even seasoned piano players consistently improve and learn new techniques, so do not expect to learn everything right away. These things take time and the learning will never end as you constantly strive to improve your sound, skill and ability. The notes on the bass clef begin on the bottom line of the staff with the G below middle C. Which type of note appears on which line or space on the clef determines which key is played and for how long that key is held.
In other words, if a whole note appears written on the bottom line of the treble clef, then the instrumentalist would play an E above middle C. Continue moving one white key over to get F, G, A, B, and you will find yourself back at C again.
