Description: Adobe Presenter is widely known for its ease of use to create eLearning courses from PowerPoint slides. Now that you’ve seen the course, let’s talk about how I got here from the storyboarding phase. Steve has definitely inspired me to try and create another scenario training on Poker tips, possibly playing out each scenario even when a user makes a wrong choice- thus allowing him or her to learn from the mistakes.
In Part 1 of this blog series, I shared my experience about the content acquisition and analysis phase for creating a scenario-based course. The introduction screen helped us understand that Lisa was a new joinee in the team and she was about to take her first call.
In my last blog post, I shared my experience with gathering content for creating a scenario-based course. Last week, in a conversation with a Captivate Customer Care Team Manager, I learned that she had some training requirement for the new joinees in the team.
After a long discussion, we reached to a conclusion that providing them a simulated learning experience would make sense.
Personalized Learning is the "umbrella" or the big picture of transforming teaching and learning. So when you consider different approaches that have been labeled as Personalized Learning, they may be right, somewhat.
Blended learning means combining face-to-face with online learning opportunities or a hybrid model.
Competency-based education (CBE) is an initiative that changes assessment strategies so the learner advances by demonstrating mastery instead of relying on time-based systems or grade levels. Flipped Classrooms are when the teacher posts the instructional material in the form of videos, text, links, and resources for learners to review outside of the classroom. One of the most exciting developments in technology for learning is the increasing focus on the mobility of the learning experience.  Mobile learning (m-Learning) is not about devices, but rather about learning across contexts. Gina Fredenburgh is the Instructional Designer for the School of Public Service and Health at American Public University.  Prior to that, she analyzed technologies and services for Instructional Design and Development at the University. In Part 2, I shared how I created a storyline and identified the critical steps in it and further started storyboarding and shared the introduction screen with you. In the next screen, we need to show how she starts the call and what the customer issue was.

It was an interesting exercise, where I was able to chalk out the procedure followed to resolve customer issues and the critical steps one needs to follow during the call. And the first thing I did to create a storyline was to jot down the steps a customer care executive will follow to help them resolve their issues. Jimenez narrates the book in the form of a story which is full of events, observations and experiences. I also like the cool titles he uses for the chapters, which go as Bucket List, Awake at Night, True Chatter, etc.
Schools and districts are confused about all the initiatives and how they fit with personalizing learning.
When you personalize learning using UDL principles, you and the learner are identifying learning difficulties and developing strategies for intervention. Providing access to the curriculum for all learners is at the core of personalizing learning. However, in most cases, the teacher is designing the project, the roles, the responsibilities, outcomes, and products. It is important to connect the dots of all initiatives and programs under this umbrella of Personalized Learning instead of adding one more initiative.
Web content is optimized for display on the user’s device of choice, so that the Internet accompanies the user, not limiting access to discrete locations or times. Collaborative approaches have become the expectation, mirroring the real world work situations that students likely face. Gina has designed and developed professional software training, served as the executive director of a small technical school, and instructed post-doctoral fellows and laboratory staff while in the U.S. Pooja Jaisingh and Vish as they show you how you can take it a step further and add engaging interactions to your courses. When storyboarding for this course, the single most important thing for me was to keep it conversational and follow the actual lingo that the customer care representatives are supposed to follow. The task was to train them, in a manner that they are well equipped to resolve the customer issues and delight the customers with efficient service. It’s like he is teaching how to create scenario-based learning courses in a scenario-based book! At the end of each chapter, the author directs you to view a course and answer a few questions which allow the readers to think and respond.

Many of the initiatives and programs that are implemented in a school or district can contribute to personalized learning.
Learners can take advantage of multiple opportunities to meet their learning goals by choosing online courses that might not be available on campus. However, if a learner knows how they learn best and owns their learning, they need access to the apps and tools that support their learning. To personalize PBL for all learners, the learners can co-design the project, offer a voice in how it is designed, and choose how they will demonstrate mastery. The mobile device is a very personal choice and acts as an extension of the person’s reach into the community of study.
Navy.  She completed her bachelor’s degree online, and is finishing her master’s degree online as well.
They will also show you how you can easily transform your slides to scenario-based courses using Adobe Presenter. The people’s choice award goes to Steve Shatkin, for his entry ‘Some tips to make you a better poker player’.
It’s a very important job and they have to do it right each time they pick up the phone and talk to the customer.
A teacher can flip the classroom, provide 1:1 mobile devices for each learner and this can still not be characterized as personalizing learning.
All of these elements described above, in the end, will support all learners to help them reach their fullest potential and to be fully prepared for college and career. If the class is still teacher-centered and learners have no voice and choice how they learn, it is not personalizing learning. If learners are using mobile devices with adaptive curriculum, the technology is personalizing learning for the learner. Adaptive curriculum can support a personalized learning path, but it is not personalizing learning for the learner.
