There are hundreds of different piano chords, but actually you only need to know a few, especially if you want to play popular or rock on a keyboard.
Note: Some of the chords will have a sharp in them which for this lesson will be the black key. What is so nice about this, is you only need to know and find one note on the piano to play a chord. Keep your hand in this position and use your number 5 finger as your guide to find the notes.
The bajo sexto is an instrument with 12 strings that is very similar to a traditional guitar. Learning how to read sheet music for piano can be quite daunting at first because it looks like a series of lots of lines and dots with several random symbols thrown in for good measure.
The key thing to remember is that piano music simply uses the basic elements of sheet music – it just has a lot of them because a piano player has 2 hands and a total of 10 fingers and therefore the potential to play a lot of notes at any one time. It helps to remember this when practicing as you can practice one hand at a time and make significant progress with whichever piece you are wanting to play. Some contemporary piano music has one stave (usually Treble Clef) for the right hand and chord symbols above or below the staff. Next  you learned how to easily turn major chords into minor chords just by moving one key one-half step -- by lowering the 3rd of the major chord.

If you not sure where the G is, then read my article on reading notes or just alphabetically go from C to your right up the piano to G and stop. Find the F with your left number 5 finger and then press down the number 3 and the number 1. Put your number 5 finger on the note and press down your number 5 finger, number 3 finger and number 1 finger at the same time.
Usually (but not always), the top stave is written in the Treble Clef and the bottom stave is written in Bass Clef. I hope you are enjoying learning about all the chords in the world -- and we're going to cover them ALL before we're done -- you'll know more about chords than 99% of the people in the world -- believe it or not, it's true.
Some people go through their entire lives not being sure about what such and such a major chord is -- and it's all so unnecessary, because you can memorize them in just a few minutes, and learn to play them in 12 seconds or less - one second per chord. We'll take up diminished triads, and you'll see how easy they are to learn once you know major and minor chords!

The top stave shows the notes that should be played with the right hand, whilst the bottom stave shows the notes to be played by the left hand. In this case, you would play the tune with your right hand and improvise the chords with your left hand.
We take your privacy (and ours) very seriously, so we don't want anyone receiving our stuff who doesn't want it! I have had many private students over the years who could play them all in as little as 5 seconds -- one little gal (she was about 12 at the time) had particularly fast hands, and could play them in - believe it or not - 3 seconds!  I have slow hands with fat fingers, and yet I can play them in something like 5 or 6 seconds. Put your number 5 finger on the G, press down the G with number 5 and then press down your number 3 finger and your number 1 finger. Without searching for the E or G note, just press down your number 3 finger and then your number 1 finger. Try variations like playing the C chord 6 times and the F chord 6 times, then the G chord 6 times.
