Performing instant recovery (VMware vCenter)
Before performing instant recovery of a VMware vCenter Server backup:
• You must have a VMware vCenter Server account with administrator privileges.
• The DS-Client service account must have full rights to access the instant recovery vault to create VSS snapshots and shares.
IMPORTANT: The DS-Client service account must belong to an administrators group. Disable UAC on the local storage host machine if you receive an access denied error.
• You must have additional permission to access the remote local storage computer. The credentials used by the DS-Client service account must have full rights to access the remote instant recovery storage computer WMI and create VSS snapshot and shares (or NFS shares).
• NFS must be installed on the instant recovery vault. Regardless of the disk type of the source virtual machine:
• For Windows DS-Clients, the disk type of the restored virtual machine will always be Thick Eager Zeroed.
• For Linux DS-Clients, the disk type of the restored virtual machine will always be Thin.
• All ESXi hosts of the target vCenter must have name resolution to the instant recovery vault. You can add the computer name and IP address of the instant recovery vault to the hosts file of every ESXi host on the target vCenter or add the “computer name and IP address” entry for the instant recovery vault to the DNS server that is used by the ESXi hosts of the target vCenter.
To perform instant recovery of a VMware vCenter Server backup:
1. Click the Backup Sets tab.
2. Select the backup want to instantly recover.
3. On the Restore menu, click Instant Recovery.
4. Select a backup session, and then click Next.

7. If you are using a Linux DS-Client, type the name of the subfolder you want to create on the instant recovery vault. DS-Client automatically mounts this folder to the selected vCenter using the IP address and credentials .
8. Configure the vCenter that mounts the instant recovery NFS share (Windows) or Snapshot clone subfolder (Linux).
9. Click Finish.
