Configuring the notification settings
DS-Client notifications are email reports or pager alerts that can be sent to the Administrator at the end of a backup session or on a regular basis during Admin processes.
If you are using MAPI with a Windows DS-Client, Microsoft Outlook is required and you must select a profile. If no profile is configured, email options will be hidden when creating new backups or reviewing backup properties. If you change the profile, you must restart the DS-Client service for the changes to take effect.
NOTE: Before configuring DS-Client to send notifications, you must create a mail profile. For more information, see your email server’s documentation.
To configure the notification settings:
1. On the Setup menu, click Configuration.
2. Click the Notification tab.
3. Under Outgoing E-mail Settings, select SMTP.
4. Under SMTP server settings, do the following:
a) Beside the SNMP Server box, click [...], and then do the following:
1. In the SNMP Server box, type the DNS name or IP address of the SMTP server the DS-Client will use.
2. In the Port box, enter the port number. The default is 25.
3. If the server requires authentication, select the Server requires authentication check box. Specify if you are using the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) or TLS (Transport Level Security) protocol for communication, and then configure the settings accordingly.
4. Click OK.
NOTE: The DS-Client uses its existing network connection when sending SMTP notifications.
b) In the From (E-Mail Address) box, type the email address that you want to appear in the From field of the email notification.

You can enter text and combine it with a backup activity placeholder. When a notification is sent, the placeholder text is replaced with corresponding data from the DS-Client database. Placeholders are case-sensitive and must be entered between the {} brace characters. For example:
• {DSC_NAME}
