Backup
After Novell NetWare is properly configured, the NetWare files can be backed up (and restored) through a File system backup set (see “File system backup sets (Windows)”).
Backup file path limitation
• The NetWare client API used by the Windows DS-Client has a 255 character limit.
• This means the path of any NetWare file being backed up cannot be longer than 255 characters. This includes the NetWareServername, the NetwareVolumename, the folders and the filename itself.
• Any files longer than this 255 character limit will fail to be backed up with either of the following errors:
The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
OR
The request is not supported.
• The only backup solution is to shorten the path on the (NetWare) backup source.
