My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.
Today's readings, my brothers and sisters, all deal with keeping God's commandments, obedience.
We see this in the first reading from the book of Proverbs.
To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
We see it throughout today's responsorial psalm, which is 118.
Which is really 118 in the old, in the traditional reading of these psalms.
119 in our psalm, but it's 118.
And it's the longest psalm in the book of Psalms.
And it's all about keeping God's law.
Guide me, Lord, in the way of your commands.
Blessed are those, blessed are they whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord.
It's all keeping God's commandments.
And this is why Jesus says, he is my brother and my mother who keeps the word of God and acts on it.
Today's Alleluia verse tells us, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.
Amen.
Dear friends, this is the most important thing in our life.
Because this is where our happiness is.
Not to do the will of God and keep God's commandments will make us unhappy.
This is why so many people in the world are unhappy.
Because they're doing their own will.
God has made us so that we will be happy only with him.
As St. Augustine knows, told us,
our hearts are raptured.
Our hearts are restless until they rest in God.
Resting in God means, of course, to do what God wants.
If you love me, you keep my commandments.
Today's scripture is also a wonderful example of the spiritual senses in the scriptures.
The literal sense we see here, how the Lord tells us,
and the story of his mother and brothers being outside.
And it looks as if,
if Jesus is not really interested in seeing them.
Of course he is.
But he wants to get a point across
that this is truly his mother and his brothers
are those who keep his word of God.
That's so important.
More important than being brothers and sisters of the flesh.
And he's in a way extolling the blessed mother and the brethren
are those, they're my brothers and my mother,
those who keep my word.
So indirectly, he's praising Our Lady for keeping his word.
That's why she's his mother and his brother and his brothers are important.
We see this also in today's reading, the three senses, the first sense,
the sense of faith, how Jesus wants to illustrate how it's important to keep the word of God.
This is what he's doing.
He's doing the Father's word.
Remember in the, in the scripture, in the loss of the temple,
when his mother asked him what,
how come he's been staying away for three days?
He says, did you not know that I must be about my father's business?
It's most important for Jesus to do the will of his father.
That's the most important thing.
So he gives us a good example in the same way with us.
There should be no opposition, of course, in the will of the Father and the will of the,
of the God, the Father and the will of the parents.
But sometimes we have to choose.
We choose the will of God.
And we see the, the moral sense here, keeping the commandments.
We have to keep the commandments, the will of God.
God's will is expressed for us in the commandments.
So the moral sense of this, this particular scripture today is to keep the commandments.
And we'll be happy.
And all these, this, the third spiritual sense deals with our final end.
And if we do this, then we'll be happy with God forever in heaven.
This is why God made us.
We know from the simple catechism question, why did God make you?
God made me to know him, to love him, and to serve him in this world.
And to be happy with him in the next.
Knowing and loving and serving God.
And this world, of course, relates to doing God's will and keeping his commandments.
And of course, this is why the world is so unhappy.
And depressed, discouraged and everything.
Because they're doing their own will.
They think they're having a good old time and so forth.
But in reality, they're miserable.
They're unhappy.
Their conscience bothers them.
They can't sleep and so forth.
And so on.
They can't sleep, so they have to get drunk.
They can't sleep, so they have to overdose and take drugs and all the other nonsense.
Only with God.
Resting in God.
All our problems would be resolved if we kept the commandments.
That's why Our Lady came to Fatima.
Keep it simple.
Men must stop offending God.
He's too much offended by sin.
As a good mother, she warns us about that.
She warned us about that in 1917.
And we see now we're much worse than we were in 1917.
Our world has gone out of control.
And that's why it's groaning with all kinds of troubles.
Everybody sees it.
Everybody knows what's going on.
They wonder what's happening in the world.
Well, it's all sin.
It's all because of sin.
And all because we've taken God out of our life.
Even governments are taking God out of the...
They're not putting God in God we trust and things like that.
On various buildings and money and so forth.
Of course, they trust in man.
They don't want to hear about God.
And that's why they're falling apart.
The world is groaning because of sin.
Our Lady told us that.
And we must...
In our lives and our good example,
try to show people that they can only be happy doing God's will.
My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.
So if we want to be God's mother and God's brothers and sisters,
we have to do His will.
