In this Advent season, we reflect on our Lord coming to us in the stable at Bethlehem, coming to us as a man in our midst, to live in our midst, and as part of this theme of our Lord coming to us, we have this gospel of our Lord during his public life, coming to the people, going up on the mountain and sitting there, waiting for the people to come to him. He comes to them and they come to him. He comes halfway, so to speak, and he waits for us to come to him, and then he wants to heal us of all our deformity, our sins, our sadness, our difficulties, our worldly anxieties. He wants us to come to him as he did on the mountain, and the people came to him and were healed, and they glorified the God of Israel, and they rejoiced that he had healed them of all these things, and then after that, he feeds them. He still has compassion on them. He has compassion on them in the beginning, and then after healing them, still has compassion on them in their hunger. They must have been very hungry, because if they were going to collapse on the way, they must have already been very hungry. So our Lord was understanding and compassionate and gives them food. He gives us food, too, food in the Eucharist, food in his gospel message, which is food for our mind, our destiny. Through our journey, through our pilgrimage, we always need to be fed by the wisdom of God, and so we have to continue to come to Jesus. He still comes to us. He comes to us in the grace of his presence in baptism, which we maintain. He's in our heart. He's coming to us, and we still have to come to him in prayer, constantly turning to him, coming to him in the Eucharist, at the Mass. We sort of still have to come halfway, although our Lord is willing to go all the way, as he did, all the way to the cross, all the way into our hearts and stays there, and we should be willing to go all the way to our Lord as well with our entire life. So let us do that. Let us go halfway all the way to our Lord. As he came to us, let us go to him always. Let us go all the way to our Lord. Let us go all the way.
