There are many who will use the final passage from today's Gospel to declare that our Lord has told us that everything that a government says we must do, but our Lord is very careful in the words he chooses. Being the Son of God, he never speaks in a way that can be taken contrary to his will if it is understood as the Lord intended it to understood. And so he said to repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God. All souls belong to God because they were paid with an infinite price when he sacrificed himself for them on the cross at Calvary. And so no soul belongs to God. And so no government has the right to enact unjust laws, that is, laws specifically designed to be contrary to the will of God. And so if we are to understand what our Lord says in today's Gospel and to exercise that virtue that all Christians are called to exercise, that is, the virtue of patriotism towards our nation, we must, as Pope St. Pius X pointed out, be willing and be courageous enough to speak out against our nation when it is doing things contrary to the good of each human individual and hence doing things contrary to the good of each individual and hence things contrary to the good of the nation. And so we must speak out about the crimes of our day and our age, particularly those crimes which seek to redefine the definition of marriage, which God alone has the right to define. The institutionalization of abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia, and all other sins contrary to the will of God. These things do not belong to Caesar because they belong to God. And so marriage itself does not belong to Caesar. It belongs to God, and God alone has the right to define it. And so when we see in our nation that Caesar is claiming to himself those things which do not belong to him. We must speak out firmly and charitably, and yes, we must speak out with a disposition that is willing to even suffer the ultimate price. As G.K. Chesterton pointed out, what is unique about the Christian is that the Christian loves life so much that he is willing to die in order to preserve it. By here he points out that we must always have a supernatural disposition. We must always be aware that if we are to lose the life in the body. body we cannot have the life of our soul taken from us by anyone that we must do on our own we must willingly choose to violate one of the commandments of God in a serious way that is to commit a mortal sin and so let us go forth courageously truly loving our nation and most especially loving it courageously when it has done so many things contrary to the will of God has claimed to itself so many things that belong to God alone and so let us pray for our nation that she attains that greatness that the Lord had has called her to attain from all eternity for each society of men that God that is organized into a nation has been called by Almighty God and it is up to that nation to fulfill that destiny that God alone has determined for it and so he has called all nation and all peoples to great things we refuse to do those great things when we usurp to ourselves those things that belong to God and so let us speak out about the crimes and sins of our nation in this day and age so that so that our nation may come again to know the love of the sacred heart of Jesus and what he has done to purchase us and what he has done in order that all our societies may be governed may be governed by the laws of God and by the laws of God and by the laws of God and by the laws of that all souls have for Christ and in doing so receive his grace so that a true a truly great nation may rise up one that respects life and one that defends life a nation that is willing to love life so much that it too is willing to die in order to defend it that is precisely what a nation does when it goes off to a just war that is the men of that nation declare that they love life so much that they are willing to go off and die for it that is they are willing to preserve the family and so if a nation is governed by any other principle than the preservation of the family then it is governed by a false principle and the principle that governs most of the modern world is the lust for money the lust of the lust for affluence the lust for the things of this world for with money it believes comes power and with power the right to importance of the things of this world and with power the right to upon any soul any individual or any other nation that which it's be that that which it believes is right for them but what is right for us is the will of God and the will of God cannot be found in a nation that takes upon itself those prerogatives that belong to God alone as Pope John Paul the second had put in the Roman Catechism a nation that aborts its children is a nation that aborts its children is a nation that aborts itself itself only she also does a terrible thing but her relatives have gone all the way through she through her wife and her interpreting ofcco how to say minimizing obnoxiously the hombre exfoliatesCould our nation have been doomed to destruction and so the way of America That was in the past is one day to disappear for our nation has killed its children it has destroyed many of the souls and who knows what God has called those souls to give what gifts they were called to give to their nation but because a nation may be doomed humbly repents, turns to God, then God will raise it up more glorious than any of the glory that it has had in the past. And so let us truly love our nation so that we desire that she may have a greater glory than she may ever had in the past, and that that glory is earmarked by a love of the sacred heart of Jesus and an enthronement in this nation of Jesus Christ the King, so that reigning over us in this life, we may come to adore him for all eternity in the life to come. And so let us truly love our nation so that we desire that she may have a greater glory than she may have in the past.
