Saint Mary Magdalene today is manifesting emotions that would keep her from coming to
the full understanding of the truth that Jesus Christ truly was to rise from the dead and so
both the angels and our Lord ask her the same question woman why are you weeping for the Lord
wants us to weep for our sins but he has no place for that form of weeping that is merely an
emotional outlet because it would prevent her to come to fully understand this mystery this mystery
that truly the Lord had to suffer to die to be buried and on the third day rise again and he
would rise victorious and then he would go about as we learned yesterday strengthening his apostles
and his disciples so that the whole world may come to know what Mary Magdalene declares in today's
gospel Rabboni that is teacher and then they would come to understand that as Saint Bonaventure
points out and many other saints
that we have only one teacher and that is the Christ and so it is that he is the way
to teach us the eternal truths and outside of him there is no truth for all truth even if it appears
to be outside of the church in some way owes itself to the church and so our Lord here again
is strengthening his disciples those disciples that would be the first in the nation church to
tell the world as st. Peter says,
did in today's first reading that we must repent and believe in the gospel because this Jesus whom
you crucified has been constituted both both priest and king and so it and prophet that is
he is priest or teacher and king and he is truly our leader in the way to salvation and so she was
to go and to begin to help our Lord to strengthen the Apostles and indeed we see in our Lord's
choice of a woman to strengthen the Apostles the essential the essential need we have for a mother's
mediation and we know that Mary Magdalene's mediation is merely a cooperation in the
mediation of the Blessed Virgin Mary for as Pope Benedict the 16th has pointed out she was the
teacher of the Apostles she is the one who is the teacher of the Apostles and she is the one who
after our Lord ascended into heaven who truly laid out to them all the mysteries filled in all
the details that has come down to us through the oral tradition of the church until this present
age and would continue to be handed down to the church until the end of time or under the
leadership of the vicar of Christ the church will always be led through the trials and the
tribulations of this world because as we learn from the from Easter Sunday
the Lord once risen cannot be put down again and so in each and every subsequent generation there
are those who seek to crucify Christ again and while it is true that as members of the mystical
body we must make up what was lacking in the suffering of Christ that is to be crucified for
him we do so under the truth and the revelation of the resurrection and so we know that Christ can
never be put in the grave again
we will be put in the grave insofar as we have cooperated with him and our suffering will be
salvific if it has been United to his suffering but Christ can no longer be put down and so he
truly is here to give to the world the revelation it is so much in needed and so we have nothing to
fear for the risen Christ rules over the church and he will rule over the church until the end
of time and most especially in his
Eucharistic presence where he is truly Lord and truly King to guide us and to teach us the way to
Salvation and then we can go forth and begin to guide and teach the work the world in the same way
so that it may truly come to know the truth and it may truly come to know that Jesus Christ has risen
and that he cannot be put in the grave again that he has come in order to give us the time to repent
to come to know him
to come to love him to come to serve him and so after journeying through this life doing those
things we may enjoy his presence for all eternity in the kingdom to come and so let us truly be
rejoiceful this day that the Lord does not pay attention to our emotions and our feelings when
they are not conductive to us growing in the faith but he kindly and charitably gently and firmly
corrects us as he did Saint Mary Magdalene
this day so that she could come to understand that it was not the gardener although he has
sowed sown the seeds of our salvation but it was as she said the teacher but the one teacher of all
mankind and hence the divine teacher and the only true teacher of all mankind and we have been
blessed to be incorporated into Holy Mother Church and so let us strive always to fill ourselves with
her doctrine to fill ourselves
by participating uh worthily in the youth in the sacramental life of the church with the grace is
necessary to go forth and to preach that doctrine as our Lord taught the apostles as the apostles
taught the early disciples and as their successes began to teach the early doctors and fathers of
the church and they henceforth taught others and others taught others until our present time we see
that same theme being carried on
that Christ truly does teach us and that he teaches us through the apostolic succession of
the church but it is really the same Christ who taught the first apostles that is teaching us
this very moment and this very day and that he will do so until the end of time and then
we will come to enjoy him for all eternity in heaven
