Today in the life of the Church we celebrate a very important feast, the Solemnity of St.
Joseph, the husband of Mary. For in this feast we learn very clearly that marriage is a supernatural
reality and hence it is defined by Almighty God and so any attempt to redefine marriage is an
assault not only on the supernatural order but more particularly an assault directed on the
Holy Family itself. It draws the line between a struggle, a struggle between a supernatural way
of living and a merely natural way of living, a struggle between the Kingdom of God, the family
of God and the Kingdom of Satan, the family of Satan. And so we find ourselves in this day and
age in this most extraordinary struggle and it is to the Holy Family we must turn and most
especially that Holy Patriarch who by the grace of God was given the most extraordinary role that
can ever be given to a human being who was born in the Holy Family.
In the order of original sin that is St. Joseph for by grace he was elevated to the most extraordinary
role of being the husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Father of Jesus Christ in the Holy
Family and so we learn a most extraordinary mystery of what grace is capable of even in those
conceived in original sin. For when we reflect upon this mystery we know we reflect upon the
mystery that our Lord would have gone to the Holy Family and that our Lord would have gone to the
St. Joseph in order to gain permission to use the things in the Holy Family and so St. Joseph had
to be a man who was incapable of commanding our Lord and guiding the Blessed Virgin Mary in any
way other than that way which was in accord to the will of God the Father and so he completes
the mystery of the Incarnation by giving us an image of God our Father and most particularly
that in the Holy Family we are able to be a man who is incapable of commanding our Lord and guiding
the Blessed Virgin Mary in any way other than that which was in accord to the will of God the Father and
image of a patron and protector and so St. Joseph has in the mystical body the same role that he had
in the Holy Family he is its patron and protector and so we must turn to him most especially in this
day and age for he and he alone has been entrusted by Almighty God in the protection of the divine
mysteries and what he did for the Holy Family he will certainly do for the mystical body of Christ
he protects the Holy Family and he will certainly do for the mystical body of Christ he protects the
Holy Family and he will certainly do for the mystical body of Christ he protects the Holy Family

The Lord would ultimately teach the chosen people and from there would go forth through his apostles in order to claim the whole world for his kingdom.
And so this great saint must be a saint that has that in which we have a particular place in his life.
St. Maximilian Mary Colby and reflecting upon the mystery of the Immaculate Virgin Mary would say that the question we need to ask is not what place the mother of God has in our life,
but what place we have in her life.
And so we too must ask the same of St. Joseph, not so much what place does he have in our lives, but what place do we have in his life?
Have we truly entrusted ourselves to his protection and his care?
Have we truly accepted him as a father, as the Lord accepted him as a father in the human family?
If we have done this, then we truly have no need to fear, for the Lord will restore.
He will restore through the intercession of St. Joseph what seems to be being lost in the modern world,
that the family is a supernatural reality and that its definitions are found most especially in the life of the Holy Family
and that any true family life is the life that was lived by the Holy Family in Nazareth,
that life that was watched over and protected by St. Joseph,
that life that will be restored and protected by St. Joseph.
When?
When we truly turn to him as the Blessed Virgin Mary turned to him
and as the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ himself turned to him for their protection and for their guidance.
And so he is, as St. Peter, Julian, and Maud said, the perfect fruit of the Redeemer and the co-redemption.
If Our Lady is the perfect fruit of the perfect redemption of Jesus Christ,
St. Joseph is the perfect fruit of the joint work of Christ and Mary.
And so he has...
He has been elevated by grace to a most extraordinary role.
And God, when he elevates a soul to a particular role,
he does not deprive them of all the graces necessary for them to exercise that role.
And so St. Joseph, after the Blessed Virgin Mary, has the highest place in heaven
and he truly is the patriarch of the Holy Family.
And hence, he is the patriarch and the protector of all the mysteries of our faith,
for he is the patron and protector...
of the mystical body of Christ.
And so, let us turn to him this day so that he can truly teach us those things that are most important
and most especially the true nature of the family
and how each and every member of the family must pray to God,
must give thanksgiving to God,
most particularly in the manner that St. Joseph did so.
And let us always remember that St. Joseph did this knowing that he was overseeing
that most extraordinary work of the Holy Family.
And so, let us turn to him this day so that he can truly teach us those things that are most important and most especially the true nature of the family.
of all mysteries, that mystery in which the child he would guide would one day offer himself up for
the salvation of the world. And so St. Peter Julian Emad points out that St. Joseph knew at
every moment of his life that he was preparing the Christ child when he provided for him. He was
fattening him up, St. Peter Julian Emad says, to be the slaughtered lamb of God, that when St.
Joseph would hand him all the instruments of work by which work was elevated to its most noble
stature in the holy home, St. Joseph realized he was howling out the hands that one day would accept
the nails for the salvation of the world. And so every moment of his life, St. Joseph suffered
intensely, but it was that suffering that showed his profound and deep love for the mystery that
he was invited into.
That he first sought as it were to bow out of, but not by way as is often reflected upon in
a sinful manner for we must never think that St. Joseph thought or even it entered into his mind
any thought untowards thought towards the mother of God, for when he realized the blessed
virgin was with child. He realized the mystery that was transpiring and in his humility, he
sought to bow out and let us now,
fall for those modern errors that are at the root of so much evil and so much destruction of the
human family that would say saint joseph at this moment was not the husband of the virgin mary for
the angel says very clearly do not be afraid joseph to take mary your wife not as some modern
translations have it do not be afraid to take mary as your wife contrary to popular opinion
the blessed virgin mary was not the first unwed mother she was a wedded mother and it was saint
joseph's wedding to her that shows the profound mystery of love that is to transpire in all
families life for saint joseph and the blessed virgin mary voluntarily consecrated themselves
as virgin and so they had a higher love indeed saint augustine says their marriage is the most
extraordinary of all marriages because

it is a marriage rooted most particularly and most profoundly in the highest form of love
that can possibly be exercised between a man and a woman and the child that god the father
sent into that family that child who was at that very moment the savior of the world
and the holy family at that moment entered fully into the mystery each one of them suffering
according to their position in the holy family in order to sanctify family
life and ultimately in order to give us the example of what true family life is and what
grace can elevate the human family to and so let us strive always to seek to establish in the world
that image of the holy family so that all may come to see and know the love of jesus christ
as it was manifested into the world in his elevation of this family to the highest possible
order in the created order and the holy family to the highest possible order in the created order
and then we begin to learn that it is that it is the goal of all societies to establish an environment
if we want to use that term in which the life of the holy family at nazareth can flourish in all
lands and all peoples so that all nations make may reach that stature that god has called them
to that is to witness in a particular way according to the culture of their nation to witness in a
particular way according to the culture of their nation to witness in a particular way according
from the religion of our father god this is what is being said in the holy family and these moments

him that is that we may die in the presence of christ and in the presence of the blessed virgin
mary and that is why he is the patron of a good death because saint joseph teaches us how to
always stay close to christ and mary so that at our greatest trial our greatest tribulation when
we pass from this world to eternal life we pass in the presence of jesus and mary and hence our
salvation will be secured because we have never abandoned the love that transpired in the holy
family at nazareth
