We see in the Gospel today the Sadducees, who don't believe in the immortality of the soul,
nor in the resurrection from the dead, try to trap our Lord with this question regarding marriage and the law of Moses.
And our Lord corrects their misunderstanding by pointing out the differences between this age and the age to come.
Note that marriage, as our Lord says, is for the children of this age.
Marriage has procreation as its primary purpose in order to continue to build up the human family
until the number of those predestined by God for eternal life is fulfilled.
In the age to come, the number of the predestined will already be fulfilled,
and hence there will be no more need for children, and hence no more need for marriage.
We note the intimate link between marriage and procreation,
that procreation is the primary purpose of marriage.
And if only this truth were affirmed and believed and put into practice in our own day and age,
it would cure so many ills and aberrations which afflict our society
and afflict, as our Lord said, the children of this age.
If we affirm the link between procreation and marriage,
there would be no more premarital or extramarital relationships,
because the marital act is exactly that, for those who are married.
If we affirmed the link between procreation and marriage,
there would be no more contraception, no more abortion,
because the marital act is exactly that, for those who are married.
If we affirmed the link between procreation and marriage,
the marital act is exactly that, for those who are married.
If we affirmed the link between procreation and marriage,
the marital act is exactly that, for those who are married.
Because the marital act is exactly that, for those who are married.
act is for procreation. It is always meant to be open to life and to embracing life.
If procreation and marriage maintained their link, there would be no talk about same-sex
marriage because this, of course, renders procreation impossible. And hence, there can
be no true marriage between two people of the same sex. And so let's pray for our troubled
and immoral society. Let's pray for the family and for the recognition of the dignity of
true marriage and the sanctity of human life so that, as today's gospel says, we may all
be judged worthy of a place in the age to come and of resurrection and of a glorious
resurrection. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
