PRODUCT & PRINT SPOTLIGHT The DP direct drive series, a new generation of friction welding machines, produce all types of drill pipes. A lightweight, quick release tooling system has been added so there is no need for changeovers using cranes, and an updated, inprocess optical measurement device provides accurate TIR data for every component. In addition, the company developed an in-cycle, internal boring tool for removing flash from narrow-diameter tool joints, meaning the process can be performed on the same machine without transferring the components elsewhere for a separate operation. The environmental friendly machine includes redesigned hydraulic packs with energy-saving, variable speed drives, nonpriming pumps, and low noise guard booths. Also, they are equipped with forge clamps for friction welding an unlimited range of pipe sizes and lengths. They use a closed loop control system for monitoring the weld head speed and position. It supports the optimization of cutting programs, setup of interface signals, and management of cutting process data. In addition, RobotWare Cutting is a robot controller add-on that features tools for the integration of peripheral equipment, robot tuning and calibration, and programming complex paths and shapes. It is compatible with most common laser cutting equipment brands and has an intuitive graphical user interface that provides the flexibility to switch automatically and quickly between different product series. Quick connect interchangeable fittings snap in place and are corrosion resistant. A stainless steel harness has extended lengths available and easily navigates through pipes. Also showcased are proprietary relief valve technology, and a tri-flow inner tubing system (blue, black, and exhaust hose) improves the efficiency of gas flow in and out of the purge area.
