Originality/Similarity Reports
When you submit your essays through Turnitin, you can review your essays' percentage match to outside sources. In other words, any material you used from outside sources in paraphrases, quotes, and summaries in your essay will appear as part of this percentage (called an originality report).
The purpose of revealing this percentage, which is also available to graders, is to help you gauge the amount of outside material you use in your work. Strive to use much less than 25% material from outside sources so that most of your work is your original content. Remember that any material you use from an outside source should have an MLA formatted citation and a related Works Cited entry.
To access the Originality Report, follow the steps illustrated in the screenshots below:
1. Navigate to your paper submission and click the blue pencil.

2. Click on the Original Report button.

3. Click on Match Overview to view further details.

4. Click on each Match to review match breakdown details.
