WorkLIFE

Part 1

February 17 & 18, 2007                                                               Pastors Jim Keller & Ralph Howe

Ecclesiastes 5:19b-20 (NLT) To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life – that is indeed a gift from God. People who do this rarely look with sorrow on the past, for God has given them reasons for joy.

Ø      All work, in its essence, is ___________________________.

The Fall of man focuses on work becoming difficult, not work itself   becoming bad.

Genesis 3:17b, 19 (NIV) “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life… By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.”

Our work is what in large part provides us meaning in life.

Ecclesiastes 2:24 (NIV) A man can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in his work.  This too, I see, is from the hand of God.

Ø      All work is _________________________________ by God.

God “worked” in creating the world.

Genesis 2:2 (NLT) On the seventh day, having finished His task, God rested from all His work. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when He rested from His work of creation.

                 Jesus worked as a carpenter.

Mark 6:2b-3a (NLT) They asked, “Where did He get all His wisdom and the power to perform such miracles? . . . He is just the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. . .”

Ø      All work, therefore, is _______________________________.

God shows us through Scripture all work is His work.

Ephesians 6:5-7(NIV) Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.  Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.  Serve the Lord, not men…

All work must be done to the glory of God.

I Corinthians 10:31 (NIV) So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
