Solving Cubic Equations Algebraically and Graphically (CAS)

Open a new calculator window.

Solve the equation algebraically by using the solve command.

Input the cubic equation, a comma, and the variable you are solving for.

Open a new graphing window.

Input the same cubic you used in the algebraic solution

This time you're finding the solution graphically.

Press Enter to see the graph.

Use the Trace tool to find the coordinates of the x-intercept.

Press Menu, 5, and 1.

Press the left arrow until the pointer lands on the x-intercept.

You will see a z at such a point.

Compare the results from the algebraic solution to the graphic solution.

Click on Control and the left or right arrow to toggle from one window to another.
