REVISIONIST ARCHIE
afterwordSo, was that great, or what? Veronica and Betty, each in their turn, both making a pass at Jughead! C'mon, admit it, you were surprised.
And how about "Actions Speak Louder Than Words"? While this sort of story is far from uncommon in the annals of comics, they are few and far between in the Archie Comics line, and this particular example really shines. The crisp seven-panel page layouts are just so well done. This story is at the acme of efficient visual story-telling. Could it have been done any better? Another Harry Lucey Classic! This guy is severely under-rated, let me tell ya'!
As for the revisionist aspect of this story, the last page, while obviously worked for the gag value, nevertheless puts Archie and Reggie in Jughead's camp for a rare moment that provides a counter-balance to Jughead being lumped together with Archie and Reggie-- in being viewed as possessing romantic potential-- by Veronica and Betty in the preceding Laugh and Jughead cover gags.
