Dr. Bader was elected chair following a three-year stint as the inaugural Vice-Chair of CCSPA. Currently, he is the Assistant Athletic Director for Mental Health & Performance at the University of Arkansas and the National Team Sport Psychologist for USA Boxing, Inc. Chris spent time in the athletic departments at the University of Oklahoma (2007-2012) and the University of Colorado (2012-2019) before beginning at the University of Arkansas. Chris is married to LaTisha Bader, a licensed psychologist, sport psychologist, and addiction expert; and, together they have one daughter.

Dr. Houle is a licensed psychologist at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Jameson Crane Sports Medicine Institute. He holds a clinical assistant professor position in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. He currently serves as the Lead Sport Psychologist for OSU Athletics. Dr. Houle provides performance enhancement, mental health services for athletes, and consultation to coaches, staff, and administration.

Josie
Dr. Josie Nicholson is the Counseling and Sport Psychologist for Ole Miss Athletics, having joined the Health and Sports Performance Staff in 2012. A native of Oxford, MS, Dr. Nicholson is a Licensed Psychologist, a Certified Mental Performance Consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, and is on the USOC Mental Health provider registry. She is also the National Team Sport Psychologist for USA Shooting. She has trained extensively in the use of hypnosis, and is also trained in the specialty areas of EMDR, group therapy, and sport performance. She and her husband Steven have two sons, Claiborne and Steele and two German Shepherds, Shiloh and Nanuk.

Dr. Tess Palmateer is the Director of Mental Health for the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Athletic Department. In her current role, she provides mental health and mental performance services to FAU student-athletes and consults with the coaches, staff, and administration. In addition, Tess assists with the sport psychology training for the Doctoral Internship in Health Service Psychology at FAU Counseling & Psychological Services.

MICHELLE JOSHUA, PH.D., LP, CMPC
MEMBERSHIP CHAIR


Dr. Michelle Joshua serves as the Director Sport Psychology. She is a Licensed Psychologist and Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) specializing in individual psychotherapy and sport performance consulting. She is also currently listed in the US Olympic Committee's Sport Psychology Registry. Dr. Joshua's training with clinical issues, background in performance excellence, and understanding of sport and exercise experiences are a unique combination of assets. She is a former Division I athlete, captain, and scholar-athlete who understands the pressures and joys associated with high-level athletic participation.
 
At NC State University, Dr. Joshua provides individual consultations and team sessions for student-athletes, coaches, and staff.  Whatever her role, her mission is always to create the mindsets and environments that help people thrive, in sport and life. Her approach is strengths-based, positive, and holistic. Current professional areas of interest include team dynamics and culture; high performance mindset; injury recovery; and issues salient to LGBTQ+ and international student-athletes.  
 
Dr. Joshua comes to NCSU with a diverse background of experiences that make her well suited to work with student-athletes. She began her career working in university counseling centers and then went on to create a successful private practice focused exclusively on sport, exercise, and health issues. She is routinely asked to present at national conferences and has been featured in articles about sport psychology in both professional journals and popular magazines. Most recently, she had the opportunity to consult with the US Women's National Soccer Team (USWNT) in their lead-up to the 2019 FIFA World Cup.
 
When Michelle is not working, she can most likely be found on her stand-up paddleboard, enjoying nature, or flexing her competitive mind on the Scrabble board.

MARCIA EDWARDS, PSY.D.
ORGANIZATIONAL LIAISON & COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR


Dr. Marcia Edwards is a sport psychology postdoctoral fellow for Counseling and Psychological Services. In that role, she works with student-athletes for mental health and wellness out of her office in Nieri Enrichment Center.

Dr. Edwards earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Hampton University in 2011. She completed her masters degree in kinesiology (with a specialization in sport psychology and motor behavior) from University of Tennessee. She went on to receive a doctorate in clinical psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Washington, DC. She worked at Positive Impact Health Centers in Atlanta providing care for minoritized individuals, including low income, LGBTQ, and HIV/AIDS population.

From 2018 to 2019, Dr. Edwards completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of Oklahoma within the university counseling center and athletics department. Her areas of clinical interest include sport injury and pain management, interpersonal trauma, diversity, athletic identity, career transitioning/termination, and psychological assessment.

A native of Dayton, Ohio, Marcia enjoys hot yoga, organizing her Pintrest board, and traveling.

TOM GOLIGHTLY, PH.D.

Dr. Tom Golightly is currently an Assistant Director for BYU Counseling and Psychological Services. He graduated Summa cum Laude in the year 2000 from The University of Arizona, double majoring in Psychology and Italian. He then came to BYU as a graduate student first earning a Masters Degree in School/Counseling Psychology, and, ultimately, a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology in 2007. He completed his internship at Texas A&M University Student Counseling Service and worked for a time at Texas Tech University’s Student Counseling Center and the Department of Athletics. Tom returned to BYU in 2008, joining the clinical faculty in CAPS as the Outreach/Prevention Coordinator. Since his initial appointment, Tom has served in various administrative positions. He was awarded the rank of Clinical Professor in 2018. From 2014-2017 he was the President of the Association for University and College Counseling Center Outreach (AUCCCO), the largest national organization in mental health prevention and wellness for college counseling centers.
Tom is currently responsible for leading the team of psychologists tasked with treating student-athletes at BYU for a variety of mental health issues. The main goal of treatment is to help the student-athletes remove any obstacles preventing successful academic and sport performance. While managing the work with other athletic teams, Tom is the team psychologist for football, men’s and women’s basketball and the women’s soccer teams at BYU. He is also tasked with teaching responsibilities in two courses for the university – Performance Psychology and Contemporary Issues for Student-athletes. He is currently contributing member of an NCAA task force on mental health issues affecting student-athletes. Outside of his work in athletics, Tom has appeared regularly on local TV and Radio promoting wellness and principles of performance psychology. He runs a small private practice working with young athletes in the area.

DOUG HANKES, PH.D., LP

Doug is a licensed psychologist (Alabama and Tennessee) and the Executive Director of Auburn Athletics Counseling and Sport Psychology and Student Counseling & Psychological Services. Doug has graduate faculty status at Auburn University in the Department of Kinesiology, the Department of Psychological Sciences, and the Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation and Counseling and serves on thesis and dissertation committees.

 

Doug has over 30 years of experience working with elite athletes on performance and mental health issues. He is a Past President of Division 47 (Society for Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology). Previously, he served on the Division 47 Executive Committee as the Secretary-Treasurer (2010-13) and the Newsletter Editor (1998-2003). Doug also served on the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) Executive Board as the Publications/Information Division Head from 2003-2007. He is an AASP Fellow and Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) Emeriti and is listed on the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) Mental Health Registry.

 

Doug’s publications include book chapters in Counseling and Psychological Services for College Student-Athletes (Loughran, 2019), Ethical Issues in Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology (Watson & Etzel, 2014), The Oxford Handbook of Sport and Performance Psychology (Murphy, 2012), and Performance Psychology in Action: A Casebook for Working With Athletes and Performing Artists, Business Leaders, and Professionals in High-Risk Occupations (Hays, 2009). He has also co-written a book with Trent Petrie, A Student-Athlete's Guide to College Success: Peak Performance in Class and Life, 3rd Edition (2010).

ERIN HAUGEN, PH.D., L.P., CMPC

Dr. Haugen is the Director of Mental Health and Performance Psychology at the University of North Dakota Athletic and Sports Medicine Departments providing mental health treatment and performance psychology services to athletes and teams. She also works at Assessment and Therapy Associates of Grand Forks and is Founder & CEO of Haugen Performance Consulting. She is a licensed psychologist and Certified Mental Performance Consultant. She has extensive experience working with elite and collegiate athletes, sports medicine teams, and licensed mental health professionals wanting to specialize in sport psychology. She and her husband have 3 rescue herding dogs: Fromm, Eddie, and Bella.

TAYLOR LANGLEY, Ph.D.

Dr. Taylor J. Langley serves as the Assistant Director of Psychological Health & Performance and Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Coordinator in the University of Colorado Boulder’s Athletics Department. Her research & clinical interests include athlete mental health, Black mental health, masculinity, help-seeking, and stigma. Throughout her training, she has worked with student-athletes at multiple NCAA Division I institutions. Dr. Langley is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and enjoys spending time with friends, family, and her maltipoo, Sophie Bella.
