2003 George Washington's Birthday Regatta Results
Lake Eustis SC, FL
February 22 - 23, 2003
(Results by Tom Kidd and report by David Moorhouse submitted on February 24, 2003)
Seven MC's competed in the George Washington Day regatta at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club. A strong front from the West brought winds of 20+ mph with gusts well into the 30's. As a result Saturday's racing was canceled but the sailors got to enjoy a keg of beer and a great show from the multihulls sailing in "their stuff," crash and burns included.
Sunday morning greeted everyone with cooler temps and 15-20 mph winds. Racing was postponed as the breeze slowly lightened to a comfortable 10-12. By 10:30 the remaining MC's were finally off. Race one was highlighted by several lead changes but was finally taken by Skip Moorhouse from Medford, NJ. Lee Sayler took race two and Jim "Mr. Charming" Hoffman proved to be the best in race three.
A tight fleet left the regatta up for grabs going into the fourth and final race. The wind dropped to next to nothing during the second weather leg of the triangular course. Skip Moorhouse found the new wind first and the rest of the fleet could only watch as he sailed to an easy win to take the regatta.
Post race activities included hot dogs and conversation about the upcoming MC Midwinter Regatta coming up March 13-15 at LESC . Nearly 50 boats have already preregistered. See you there!
