2002 All Iowa Sailing Regatta Results
Lake McBride is located in eastern Iowa, south of Cedar Rapids. This "All Iowa Sailing" event was part of a large celebration of the fact that Lake Macbride now has water!
In the fall of 2000, Lake Macbride was totally drained of water so that a lot of lake maintenance work could be done. It turned out that the work wasn't finished as soon as they had anticipated, and the lake had no water during 2001. It was during this whole period that Jim Brust and I decided to campaign our I-20 since our home lake had no water for MC racing.
Well, the lake finally became full of water this summer and a large celebration was held on September 7th. One part of that was a sailing regatta run by the Lake Macbride Sailing Club. I served as PRO.
The group that really spearheaded the entire celebration didn't finalize the details until late in the summer, so we didn't have an opportunity to publicize the regatta the way we would have wanted to. But, in any case, everyone had a great time. Even with such short notice, there were participants from Iowa City, Davenport and Cedar Rapids.
