Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay

Virginia Beach, Virginia

Living right on the beach is just the beginning of the many benefits at Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay!

We all agree that our unique beachfront senior living community has a resort-like lifestyle, gorgeous residences and an atmosphere that our families, grandkids and guests enjoy.  And, when we do need care, we have access to 5-star healthcare onsite. Here is some of what my friends and neighbors have to say about the other benefits we enjoy.

Editor’s note: Most of the photos were taken before the COVID-19 pandemic so masks are not worn and social distancing is not observed.

My wife, Mary, and I enjoy savoring chef-prepared meals with our friends in one of our three restaurants looking out at the bay. We often take an after-dinner walk on the beach. -- John Wolfe, President of the Residents Association

One of the advantages of living on the beach is I can jump into my kayak anytime I want. -– Carol Brayley

I love swimming in one of our two heated pools. However, sometimes, you just can’t beat a dip in the Chesapeake Bay on a hot summer day. -– Mary McGuire (far right)

I look forward to the peace and serenity of my yoga classes. To get my heart pumping, I enjoy line dancing, Zumba and working out in our fitness center. My husband, Kenny, and I have nearly 50 classes a week from which to choose. -- Renee DeLong

Our Bands on the Bay concert series is just plain fun and fabulous. My husband, Len, and I love dancing the late afternoon spring and summer days away, along with enjoying a glass of wine with our friends under the gazebo. -- Brenda LaDell

One of the benefits of living here are the fun events and programs. My husband, David, and I especially enjoy the Kentucky Derby Party. I don’t want to shortchange the New Year’s Eve, Mardi Gras and Super Bowl parties, not to mention all of the off-campus adventures. -- Betsy Via

I have been a member of the WC Pongers Club for five years. In addition to our regular games, we volunteer at Thalia Elementary School, where I get to teach a game I love and sneak in a bit of mentoring, too. -- Emily Filer

We take our croquet (not to mention bocce and golf) seriously here. Our Army vs. Navy and East Tower vs. West Tower competitions are a campus tradition that we look forward to each year. -– Dick Binford

Our Grand Illumination is one of the highlights of the holiday season. This year, we left our lights up through the end of January to recognize and honor our many healthcare heroes, not only on our campus but also throughout Hampton Roads. -- Jean Russell
