Old Country Store Century – 90 and 101 Miles – The century starts in north Huntsville on Pulaski Pike. It heads directly north on mostly flat roads, but once you get to Tennessee, the character of the route changes dramatically as it heads into the Elk River watershed area. The next 55 miles after Rest Stop #1 are peppered with frequent short hills and diversions into deep woods. The route profile shows approximately 4000 feet of elevation gain. Almost all of it happens between miles 30 and 81. The highlight is the 48 and 59 mile Rest stop at the Old Delina Country Store. This is a genuine general store, opened in 1892, a very significant year for the area. It is famous for its burgers and homemade Amish Fried Pies. One of these and the calorie count is sufficient to fuel you all the way to the finish. If the Delina Store is your turn-around, it's the 90-mile course. If you opt for the 11-mile northern loop, you'll ride the full century! The route north of Delina and back to Rest Stop 2 is the most challenging [hilly] part of the ride.
Gunter Hollow Super Metric- 72 miles - Mandatory if you reach the turn at Gunters Hollow after 11 am. It's really much hillier for the next 35 miles of the full century route.
The Coldwater Metric - 65 miles - The Metric Century departs from the 100-mile route right after the BIG downhill on Red Hill Rd at 30 miles with a left on Molino Rd. Like the Century, the Metric returns to Taft, TN on Old Railroad Bed Road to Rest Stop #3 in Taft, TN, where ice cream is usually available.
Taste of Tennessee Half Century - 55 miles – Shorter Route. Shady Hill. The 55-mile Coldwater Half Century departs from 100-mile route right after the first rest stop at 26 miles in Kirkland, TN. It quickly descends onto Coldwater Creek Road for a very pleasant spin through the valley. The Half-Century rejoins the main loop at Old Railroad Bed Road at mile 36. The Half Century rejoins the main route, so all routes return to Taft, TN on Old Railroad Bed Road to Rest Stop #3 location in Taft.
The 38-Mile Loop is a quick spin around the quiet farming roads northern Madison county up to the TN State Line Rd. Even the shortest route makes it to Tennessee and has one Rest stop at mile 20!
