The AFE Professional Interest Communities or PICs provide a virtual chapter experience by offering targeted content and other activities based on the specialized interests of their Members. PICs also bestow annual awards to their members. Membership in AFE is not a requirement to participate in one of our PICs. PICs elect their own leadership annually who steer the activities of the PIC.
The AFE Women’s Advisory Council (AWAC) highlights the leadership and other contributions women make to the global FM community. Through the AFE online forums and other channels, AWAC members share career insights, success stories and strategic insights. The AWAC also organizes regional, national and international activities and events, offering targeted content and recognition to AWAC members. To further harness the power of this professional demographic, AFE reserves a voting seat on its board of directors for the AWAC Chairwoman.
The AFE Young Professionals (AYP) provides valuable resources to emerging professionals. Through the AFE online forums and other channels, AYP members share career insights, success stories and skill development resources. AFE offers emerging professional additional support through the AFE Thrive™ program featuring career development activities and the ROPE to the Future mentorship program. The AYP also organizes annual activities and events, offering targeted content and recognition to AYP Members. To further harness the power of this professional demographic, AFE reserves a voting seat on its board of directors for the AYP Chairperson.
The AFE Architecture & Design PIC shall be open to participation from AFE Members, industry professionals, educators, government officials, vendors and consultants involved in offering or developing guidelines for architecture and design services.
The AFE Spanish Language PIC shall be open to participation from AFE Members, industry professionals, educators, government officials, vendors and consultants involved in offering or developing professional development services for FMs whose primary or first language is Spanish.
The AFE Mechanical Engineering PIC shall be open to participation from AFE Members, industry professionals, educators, government officials, vendors and consultants involved in offering or developing guidelines for mechanical engineering services.
The AFE HVAC&R PIC shall be open to participation from AFE Members, industry professionals, educators, government officials, vendors and consultants involved in offering or developing guidelines for installing, maintaining and servicing HVAC&R systems and equipment.
The AFE Civil Engineering PIC shall be open to participation from AFE Members, industry professionals, educators, government officials, vendors and consultants involved in offering or developing guidelines for civil engineering services.
The AFE Electrical Engineering PIC shall be open to participation from AFE Members, industry professionals, educators, government officials, vendors and consultants involved in offering or developing guidelines for electrical engineering services.
The AFE Food & Hospitality PIC shall be open to participation from AFE Members, industry professionals, educators, government officials, vendors and consultants involved in offering services or developing guidelines for delivering products and services related to event planning or the management of hotels, restaurants, and food preparation or distribution facilities.
The AFE Sports & Entertainment PIC shall be open to participation from AFE Members, industry professionals, educators, government officials, vendors and consultants involved in offering services or developing guidelines for the operation and management of sports venues, concert halls, theaters and auditoriums.
The AFE Construction & Restoration PIC shall be open to participation from AFE Members, industry professionals, educators, government officials, vendors and consultants involved in offering or developing guidelines for real estate development, construction and restoration services.

The AFE Controls, Instrumentation & Technology (CIT) PIC shall be open to participation from AFE Members, industry professionals, educators, government officials, vendors and consultants involved in offering product or service solutions or developing guidelines for the development, integration, management or procurement of BAS software, controls, equipment or other technology, including advanced tech like AI and blockchain, throughout the built environment.

The AFE Amusement & Theme Parks PIC shall be open to participation from AFE Members, industry professionals, educators, government officials, vendors and consultants involved in offering amusement park and roller coaster engineering services or developing guidelines or offering other services for the management of amusement and theme parks.
The AFE Residential, Assisted Living & Daycare PIC shall be open to participation from AFE Members, industry professionals, educators, government officials, vendors and consultants involved in offering services or developing guidelines for the management of apartment buildings or assisted living and daycare facilities.

The AFE Automation & Robotics PIC shall be open to participation from AFE Members, industry professionals, educators, government officials, vendors and consultants involved in offering product or service solutions or developing guidelines for the development, integration, deployment or procurement of artificial intelligence and robots throughout the built environment.
The AFE Agricultural Facilities PIC shall be open to participation from AFE Members, industry professionals, educators, government officials, vendors and consultants involved in offering professional advice, products or services regarding land, land usage rights, buildings and structures, machinery and other equipment used for producing, processing, preparing, packaging, storing, distributing, marketing or transporting agricultural or forestry goods.
