Symptoms of shoulder bursitis are pain, limited range of motion, weakness, difficulties sleeping, swelling and tenderness, and possibly a fever if the bursa is infected (septic shoulder bursitis).
Stage 1 usually affects individuals younger than 25 years old, Stage 2 affects individuals between the ages of 25 and 40, and Stage 3 affects individuals 40+ (reference: 1). This process will take some time to get through, and can sometimes take as long as 2 or more years to complete.

Biceps tendinitis is not treated surgically unless the tendon has partially or completely ruptured.
Individuals with mild-to-moderate cases of biceps tendinitis will recover faster than those with severe cases. This pain is often worse at night and increases with lifting, elevated pushing or pulling movements, lying directly on the affected shoulder, and occasionally with rotation of the forearm. Rehabilitation in combination with subacromial and intra-articular injections with corticosteroids has shown good results, although more than 3 injections are not generally recommended (Krabak). Modalities, including moist heat, cold, and ultrasound can be used to facilitate activity and for pain management as needed (Krabak). Pressing down (palpation) of the anterior shoulder may cause pain where the long head of the biceps tendon sits in the bicipital groove.
In order to avoid any loss of motion, immobilization of the affected arm in an arm sling should be minimized. Pain may be aggravated when the individual attempts to hold the palm up against resistance while raising the straight arm (Speed's test). Physical activities or postures aggravating the condition should be avoided, especially overhead activities and lifting (Krabak).
