Pain in the shoulder, get ripped quick at home - Review

If you are experiencing shoulder pain during your training or competitions, it's time to step back and determine the root cause.
Your partner should use one hand on your arm and the other hand supporting your shoulder blade (scapula). The space where your rotator cuff tendons and shoulder bursa reside (the sub-acromial space) becomes smaller when your arm is raised overhead and pushed to the limit.
Pain felt in the front of your shoulder while resisting your partner's arm push means biceps tendonitis is the probable cause of your shoulder pain. Your partner should slowly rotate your arm so your hand moves toward your ear with the partner pushing as far as possible. If you are apprehensive (hesitant) about shoulder movement beyond the joint, this test is considered positive for a possible labrum tear. You may feel your shoulder is unstable and potentially wants to move out of place - or relocate - especially when your shoulder is in extreme external rotation. If you feel less relocation and your shoulder feels more stable, believe it or not this test is considered positive and a torn labrum is the probable cause. The test for an AC (acromial-clavicular) joint separation is called the AC joint compression test. While seated, have your partner place one hand at the front of your shoulder joint and one hand at the rear.
The partner should slowly, but firmly press on both sides of your shoulder to compress the AC joint.
If there is a joint separation, pain will be felt at the joint between the downward pressing hands.
The empty glass test is used to assess the status of the supraspinatus, one of the four rotator cuff muscles. While seated or standing, lift the sore arm forward and to the side about thirty to 45 degrees. Pronate your wrist so the palm of your hand faces down to the floor (as if you were trying to empty a glass of water).
If pain or weakness prevents you from maintaining your arm position, you may have a supraspinatus tear. From this position, slowly lower the arm down, and then slowly lift the arm out to the side. A final test for frozen shoulder is to stand with both arms at the sides and the elbows flexed at ninety degrees.
The aforementioned tests are simple protocol anyone can use to determine the possible cause of shoulder joint injuries. Shoulder pain is an extremely common complaint, and there are many common causes of this problem.
Bursitis: The most common diagnosis in patients with shoulder pain is bursitis or tendonitis of the rotator cuff. Rotator Cuff Tendonitis: Tendonitis is when tendons become compressed under the rigid bony arch of the shoulder.
Arthritis: Shoulder arthritis is less common than knee and hip arthritis, but when severe may require a joint replacement surgery. Rotator Cuff Tear: A Rotator cuff tear occurs when the tendons of the rotator cuff separate from the bone. Frozen Shoulder: Also called 'adhesive capsuliitis,' this is a common condition that leads to stiffness of the joint. Calcific Tendonitis: Calcific tendonitis is a condition of calcium deposits within a tendon -- most commonly within the rotator cuff tendons.
Labral Tear: A Bankart lesion is a type of labral tear most commonly due to dislocation of the joint.
Shoulder Dislocation: A dislocation is an injury that occurs when the top of the arm bone becomes disconnected from the scapula.
Shoulder Separation: Also called an AC joint separation, these injuries are the result of a disruption of the acromioclavicular joint. Biceps Tendon Rupture: A proximal biceps tendon rupture occurs when the tendon of the biceps muscle ruptures near the joint. Your chiropractor looks at your overall health, focusing not only on your shoulder, but also on your lifestyle, such as diet and amount of daily exercise. The metaphor linking the human brain with computer hardware is now so well known that it features regularly in news media stories.


It has long been known that over evolutionary time the human organism developed in tandem with a vast host of microbial fellow travelers. If a patient tears a muscle in his rotator cuff, I almost always trace the roots of that same injury back to an improper sleeping position that made his shoulder more vulnerable. The following shoulder injuries are generally caused over time, by repeating the same motion such as lifting or reaching overhead, pitching or throwing, sleeping on the shoulder for several hours, or sleeping with your arm under your pillow. Bursitis means “inflammation of the bursa.” A bursa is a fluid filled sac that cushions the joint so that your tendons and muscles don’t scrape painfully over the joint every time you move. The shoulder bursae can get inflamed and fill up with too much fluid from overuse or direct trauma, like lifting a too heavy object.
Treatment starts with the usual: rest, ice, ibuprofen and of course, not sleeping on that shoulder. Tendinitis (or tendonitis) means “inflammation of the tendons” and occurs in the tendons and muscles outside the shoulder joint.
Prevent tendinitis by sleeping on your back, resting the shoulder, icing it and taking ibuprofen regularly.

If this is the case, have your partner gently press on the front of your shoulder to relocate the joint. In addition, pain while raising the arm upward and while sleeping are also indications of an AC joint separation. The supraspinatus is located on the upper part of the shoulder joint and is involved in abduction (arm raising).
A frozen shoulder diagnosis is made by observing the specific shoulder moving through a range of motion. If you suffer from frozen shoulder, your painful arm may only come up to a point just past parallel with the floor. There are multiple articulations (movements) at the shoulders, making it a challenge to directly pinpoint an injury. It is imperative to strengthen all participating muscles and shoulder articulations to enhance shoulder joint health due to the vulnerability of the body part.
It is important to make an accurate diagnosis of the cause of your symptoms so that appropriate treatment can be directed at the cause.
Arthritis is a gradual narrowing of the joints and loss of protective cartilage in the joints about the shoulder. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that you understand the cause of your symptoms before embarking on a treatment program. Special chiropractic techniques may relieve the pressure that is causing your shoulder pain. These may include moist heat, ice packs, massage, traction, or stretching and strengthening exercises. By correcting his sleeping position and discussing proper pillow support, I can insure that he will heal properly and prevent stress to his shoulder in the future. Symptoms are dull shoulder pain, or pinching pain when you raise your elbow away from your body. Be aware that if you shift to sleeping exclusively on your uninjured shoulder for the entire night, you could injure that as well! A chiropractor or physical therapist will help you with ultrasound to speed up healing and by introducing gentle strengthening exercises once the tendons and muscles have healed. It’s important that you allow your shoulder to fully recover, using your pain level as a gauge to see where you’re at.
Of course, be sure you have the proper pillow, so you don’t place your arm under your head to get more support.

The pain is likely caused by impingement of the tendons or bursa in that area of your shoulder. Additionally, as your scapula elevates towards your ear, you will feel general pain in the shoulder.
If the arm only goes up to a point parallel to the ground - and it's painful - then you likely suffer from frozen shoulder syndrome.
If the frozen shoulder syndrome is present, the painful arm will not rotate outward in comparison to the healthy shoulder. But proper assessment and movement tests to determine specific pain can narrow it down to specific injury issues. If you are unsure of the cause of your shoulder pain, or if you do not know the specific treatment recommendations for your condition, you should seek medical attention. This can occur from general wear and tear, as you get older, an activity that requires constant shoulder use like baseball pitching, or an injury. To help identify the cause of your problem, you and your chiropractor will discuss your symptoms and previous injuries, your family health history, and your lifestyle, including recreational and work related physical activities. After locating the misaligned vertebrae in your neck, your chiropractor manually applies gentle pressure and repositions the vertebrae.
This could wear down the cartilage of your joint and lock your shoulder muscles into place, causing sharp pain when you try to straighten your arm in the morning. A muscle tear will most likely occur when you suddenly demand a movement (while playing sports, etc.) that the muscle is too weakened to deliver.
Sometimes treatment will be more aggressive, depending on your pain level, like using a needle to extract some of the excess fluid in the bursa, or getting cortisone shots at the joint.
If you don’t treat bursitis and tendinitis completely, you could end up tearing the muscle, which never fully heals without surgery. One patient freely moved her neck after three weeks of stiff, painful torticollis (twisted neck).
What may present  as a migraine, pelvic pain, or recurrent sore throats, in the doctor’s office, is often not, or at all, end of story. There is surely a time and place for conventional modalities, but the majority of cases could benefit from this unique approach, I am certain. Her approach is investigative integration that seamlessly blends Western medicine and Wholistic philosophy in a way that identifies and treats the root issue. These adjustments can help restore alignment, improve mobility, and relieve pain and stiffness to increase function. It may also cause inflammation of the tendons, muscles and joints, leading to serious injury.
And, maybe the reason I had trouble inhaling, was because I couldn’t (or didn’t want to) receive help. She realized that the unexpressed anger and disappointment at her daughter who chose inheritance money over their relationship froze her ability to “turn the other cheek” so to speak.
