African American Studies is pleased to bring to the Mississippi State University community some of the most prominent scholars, leaders, and artists in the world today to present lectures, conferences, and artistic performances. Professor Finkelman is the editor of the The Political Lincoln: An Encyclopedia (2009) published by CQ Press and is an advisor to the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission. He has held fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Philosophical Society, the American Bar Foundation, the Japan Society of the Promotion of Science, Yale University, Harvard Law School, the Gilder Lehrman Institute, and the Library of Congress.
Minion Kenneth Chauncey "KC" Morrison is currently Professor and Head of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Mississippi State University, where he is also a Senior Fellow in African American Studies. Political Science, Freshman Studies, Third World Studies and African and Afro-American Studies. Morrison's publications have appeared in the two broad fields of African and Afro-American politics.
He is a member of the American Law Institute, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Philosophical Association. Professor Baker began his career as a scholar of British Victorian Literature, but made a career shift to the study of African American Literature and Culture at Yale. In sum, Professor Roediger maintains that given the political realities in our country---its distribution of advantages and disabilities, and its unspoken assumptions---the United States is "still a white" nation. His recently published (with Valeria Sinclair-Chapman and Brian McKenzie) articles include "The Macro Dynamics of Black Political Participation in the Post-Civil Rights Era" in the Journal of Politics.
Before teaching at Columbia University, Professor Harris was assistant, associate, and professor of political science at the University of Rochester.

He was previously Frederick Middlebush Professor of Political Science at the University of Missouri-Columbia (2005-2008).
Since then he has traveled widely over the African Continent, the Caribbean, Latin America, and Europe doing field work and consulting related to his research and teaching on African politics and society. His research, writings and teachings in this area have been concentrated on electoral politics in the South.
He is past President of the National Conference of Black Political Scientists, of the Columbia Commission on Cultural Affairs, and of the Missouri Humanities Council. Roediger does not shun contemporary thinkers in our culture, no matter whether they are on the talk-show circuit, such as Rush Limbaugh, or in politics, as Bill Clinton and Rudolph Giuliani, or even sports, as O.J.
She has been a fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Studies at Harvard University (2003-2004), at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University (2000-2001) and at the National Humanities Center (1986-1987).
