Treating dogs with severe separation anxiety

Personal protection puppy training
Summertime calls for more outdoors fun with your pet, but the hot weather must be handled with caution. With the rising temperatures (and humidity) it’s important to keep dogs hydrated since our canine companions don’t have the capability of sweating to cool down.
Not all dogs are blessed to have a built in pool in the backyard, but all can enjoy a good kiddie pool that is a easy setup can help.

During the summer it’s important for pet parents to balance enjoying time outdoors with heat safety procedures. According to the Center for Disease Prevention and Control, these pesky bugs that love to bite people and pets can transmit diseases like West Nile virus, Lyme disease and even Plague. For the safety of both yourself and your pet stay away from places with a lot of foliage and high grass and use a bug repellent that contains 20% DEET. On sunny summer days roads and sidewalks can become unbearably hot to the pads of your pet’s feet.
Use the above guide to determine when you should avoid taking your pet out on hot roads and sidewalks. You know that it’s important for you and your pets to stay hydrated during the hot summer months.

When we bloat we’re aware of what is happening, but for pets this can cause an unknown discomfort.
Taking your dog out for a jog or energetic game of Frisbee or fetch is a great way to keep your pup healthy.
During the main portion of the day when you and your bud head out the door keep activities gentle and watch for signs of heavy panting or exhaustion. The same goes for cat parents – don’t overexert your pet if she loves to play outdoors with you. Additionally, because you’re more likely to play outdoors frequently during the summer consider putting your pet on a joint mobility supplement so she can maintain her energy and strength for a lifetime. Heatstroke is a serious and sometimes fatal result of pets who spend too much time in the heat or who over exert themselves in warm weather. As a pet parent it’s important for you to know the warning signs so you can take action immediately to help your dog or cat.

Take these simple precautions, provided by ASPCA and Animal Care & Control of NYC experts, to have a safe and enjoyable summer for you and your pet. Commonly used flea and tick products, rodenticides (mouse and rat baits), and lawn and garden insecticides can be harmful to cats and dogs if ingested, so keep them out of reach.

If you’re not sure of the temperature, press the palm of your hand against the ground for seven seconds. However, during the summer it’s important to play high-octane games in the mornings or evenings when it’s less hot out (and to also have plenty of water on hand). According to the American Animal Hospital Association,  “our four-legged friends only perspire around their paws, which is not enough to cool the body.” Because of this they use pant, which helps them expel hot air and heat out of the body through the mouth. If the heat of the ground is uncomfortable on your hand, it will be uncomfortable for your pet’s paws. While this is an efficient method of cooling most days, it becomes hard for their bodies to do on high-humidity days. Similarly, remember that the snacks enjoyed by your human friends should not be a treat for your pet; any change of diet, even for one meal, may give your dog or cat severe digestive ailments. Consult with your groomer or veterinarian to determine whether your pet would be more comfortable with a shorter haircut for the summer.
