Kevin
Mitchell writes for nearly a dozen magazines and is a regular contributor
for St. Louis Magazine, where
he writes humor, features, and profiles on prominent city leaders.
He’s written about such diverse topics as being a Stay
at Home Dad, immigration
to St. Louis, and returning to his hometown
after a 20-year absence.
As a 16-year veteran of the music retail industry, he is as of 2007 associate editor of MMR Magazine where he writes extensively about the music instrument trade business and a column called Web Wise.
He also writes extensively for Pro
Lights & Staging News, a magazine for entertainment-related
technical and trade professionals. In PLSN he wrote about legend
Chip Monck, who was the voice
of Woodstock (he warned us about the brown acid). One of the best
lighting directors in the business, he worked with everyone from
Dylan to the Stones, Bill Cosby to the Pope! Probably the most fascinating
person he’s ever had the honor of interviewing.
He also writes for Pro Lights & Staging News’ sister publications, FOH www.fohonline.com and Stage Directions www.stage-directions.com.
Through these publications he’s actually interviewed Peter Frampton, and met his idol, Todd Rundgren; otherwise he’s always two degrees separated from knowing someone even vaguely important. For example, he doesn’t know Bruce Springsteen, but knows his lighting designer; he doesn’t have Billy Joel’s phone number, but has his sound guy’s number …. all this, plus $1.75, gets Kevin a tall coffee at Starbucks. Please don’t ask him to get you free tickets to Rascal Flatts, though he probably could.
