A group of passionate WordPress lovers/users got together and convinced the people at WordCamp to allow us to have this world-wide event here in our great city. I happen to be one of those lovers/users and was able to be on the organizing committee and lend my design and development skills to benefit the team. This means I was able to create the first-ever WordCamp San Antonio logo and I am super honored and proud!

Filters are similar but they modify a bit of data which WordPress uses. A good example is the logout message that is shown. Instead of performing an action whenever a logout message is shown, a filter allows you to modify the logout message itself. We will not go into hooks in detail here. I recommend taking a look at our article, A Quick (and in-Depth) Guide to WordPress Hooks, or the WordPress Codex if you would like to learn more.

Hey Blendlight, it’s a good question and suppose it depends a lot on how much time you can dedicate to learning and how much experience you have in programming already. But I would say around 2 years to become competent in different aspects of WordPress development. In an ideal world you would work alongside professional developers to increase your learning and have them check your code to iron out mistakes. There are a lot of online courses that can help you, there are also intensive 2-3 month courses that can get you up to speed quickly. The important thing is to keep on learning, even after 10 years of working with WordPress we are still learning new methods as HTML5 and CSS3 evolves. My advice is do an online course, get involved with online development communities, challenge yourself to make your own WordPress theme or plugin, and follow the WordPress developer docs closely. Good luck!
