A quick and easy DIY project which you may wish to undertake is building a window seat out of kitchen units.
Adding a window seat in an unused space, immediately creates a spot where you can seat and relax whilst being a washed by natural day light. If you have a narrow space within your kitchen you can pair a table and chairs with window seating.
Additional storage can be built either side of the window seat, using additional cabinets and shelving from the kitchen cabinet range.

Anyone with basic DIY skills i.e you have some basic carpentry skills (you know how to hammer, nail, measure and use some power tools will be able to manage this project and it will take approximately a weekend to complete. For a larger seat area you can add a wider piece of wood onto the top of the units and this will also to join the two cabinets together. Cover the top of the seating area with cushions upholstered in fabric’s that coordinates with your room. Remove the doors to create open storage; then use the wood filler to cover the holes and sand lightly.

You can also buy a piece of foam that will cover the seating area and make a cover, if you do not think you will be able to take on an upholstery job then you could outsource this to a local company. Spotted gum decking timber was used to build a seat and storage area and also helped to soften all the hard surfaces.
