Woodworking router tips for beginners, corner bookcase designs,my movie of professional wood finishing.wmv - Review

You just bought a wood router that is consider a versatile tool in any wood worker’s shop, but without bits, this tool is nothing more than a powerful spinning motor. There are bits for all types of detailing, cutting slots, creating molding, and notches for joining two pieces of wood together. Core box bits are used to cut half-round grooves for fluted moldings, columns, mill work, and signs. The finger joint bits cuts finger like extensions to create a maximum gluing surface area for superior edge joints and splice joints.
The tongue and groove router is a set of 2 bits that helps to create custom tongue and groove hardwood flooring and inlays. The joint is used to fit 2 or more similar objects together edge-to-edge. A beading bit is similar to the round over bit in that it applies a rounded profile to the edge of the wood or stock that is used for decorative purposes. The keyhole router bit is designed to cut keyhole style slot in either vertical or horizontal for hanging pictures, plaques and other wall hangings. These bit are considered specialized bits for the intermediate to advanced wood worker that wants to take their projects to the next level and add a mark of fine craftsmanship. The modern portable router has completely taken over from the hand tool that it has replaced. Of course that is only the beginning of the accessory game, there are heaps of accessories on the market that make the humble rout into as I said before, "the most versatile tool in the shop". Routers not only handle timber with ease, but using TCT cutters they can also handle a wide variety of plastics and laminates. Here photographs and details of a wood router jig, sent to me by Jack Churchill who lives in Connecticut USA.
If you have come here from the power tools page, here is a link to a page specifically on this jig that shows what it is used for. Cutting a clean and smooth edge on a narrow piece of wood can be tricky, but a router can produce a nicely finished edge every time. This is a tool for minimalists, for those who admire simplicity of form and function beyond all else.

It is a cutting tool that is used alongside a router to hollow out some spaces on the surface of a hard piece of work.
Rabbeting Bits – Are bits specially designed for cutting a rabbet or shoulder in the edge of a piece of work.

Flush-Trim Bits – As the name suggests, they are bits used for trimming the edge of one material flush using the edge of another. The need for mounting the router-this should form a basis of your judgment when deciding which wood router bits to select. Consider the price – as the case always is, you will definitely get what you bargain for. Ideal router handling practices should be adhered to, for instance, avoid forcing a bit or moving a bit too slowly since this can cause bit and router overheating. The problem is now you are looking for specialty bits for a project you have in mind, but with so many specialized bits your not sure where to start and want to know what each of them really do.
The first thing you should know before purchasing router bits is that they come in many profiles.Especially the molding bits.
I did some research and came up with this list of the top 10 specialized router bits that every intermediate or advanced wood crafter would love to have in their workshop. These bits are used for constructing panels and frames. They simultaneously do a decorative edge and cut a panel slot for frame assembly.
These bits are used to carve a nice rounded edge, often used for the front edge on a counter top. Many of these bits can be purchased separately or in sets online. The best part about using a wood routers is all the different specialized bit profiles that you can discover and use to make your projects unique. As far as joinery work goes, many a small joinery shop and amateur woodworker can, with one of the larger size plunge routers now available, do just about any job that used to be done on a spindle moulder. Routers are used to make even and level cuts on both straight and curved edges, and can replicate those cuts on multiple pieces of wood. The tool comes in handy for many projects around the house, both functional and decorative. Wood router bits may be similar but each one can handle a different thing and deliver unique results. Try to figure out whether you will be mounting the router on a table when doing some tasks or you will make handheld cuts.
Not only are there the individual bits, but there are also several router bit sets on the market that range from a 33 piece beginner set to as much as an 88 piece set with a case. In fact there are over a hundred different shapes, sizes and styles of router bits available on the market to select from. This is a plunge style bit that creates larger diameters, then allows you to rout laterally to create the narrower slot.

The list of the Top Ten Advance Router Bits above are my idea of what should be in a wood crafter’s work shop, but you can agree with me or let me know what router bits you feel are needed for a wood workers shop. It's a great power tool to own because it is portable and can be used for a range of cutting, trimming, and shaping tasks on wood, plastic, metal, and laminates. An ideal router bit, however, should be sharp, and its sharp edge should have the ability of lasting long. Because of all these different bits this makes the wood router one of the most versatile tools you will every own. This bit requires a router table and also comes with bearing that can expanded the sizes of the joints.
Indeed, many woodworkers consider the router to be the single most versatile woodworking power tool in their arsenal. They are ideally used in creating joinery aids and garnish pieces of work with ornate effects on formed edges, surfaces of the piece of work, and many others. For instance, when designing a frame-and-panel cabinet piece of work, you will definitely have to build a router table prior to using stile-and –rail bits that are perfect for such kind of work. The original hand one was used purely for cleaning up the bottom of a slot or recess that had been mainly cut out by saw, drill and chisel. At its most basic, a router is used to “rout out,” or hollow out, a hole or groove in a piece of wood, metal, or plastic, producing finished edges, cutaways, curved contours, and precise holes.
Before we get into the details lets first shed a light unto what we are talking about by defining what a router bit is in the first place.
More body mass also help in eliminating excessive heat and keeps the bits sharp for longer. Ensure you buy wood router bits that are made from high quality carbide and sharpened using strong materials. There are literally hundreds of router bits available, all designed for different patterns and uses. Your ideal bits should be able to deliver smooth and safe cutting for an extended time period.
