Whether you're looking for somewhere magical to stay or want to come on a relaxing green woodworking course, visit our beautiful woodland all year round for a unique and unforgettable experience. Our approach to offering courses means we can fit in with our guests' schedules much more freely, and restrict group numbers so the teacher-pupil ratio is never more than 4:1. The two hour 'Have a Go' courses require two participants to start a new course on a new date. Please do bear in mind that a course will go ahead regardless of whether there are one, two, three or four participants on the day of the course. For all courses, guests can either bring a packed lunch or buy on-site a locally produced pie - which can be heated in the field kitchen.
The course offers an opportunity to get a more in-depth understanding of green woodworking than our shorter courses and spending five days in the woods is an even more relaxing escape than the short courses.
A one-day course is an excellent, relaxing opportunity to get away from it all and do something different for a day, in the peace and tranquillity of our Woodland Workshop.
During this course you are introduced to all aspects of a complete 'tree-to-product' process - from selecting and cleaving green wood ready for turning, to making a variety of small items for the kitchen and garden: spatulas, candlesticks, rolling pins, dibbers, string-lines and similar. The course is suitable for all levels of experience, from complete and utter nervous novice to hardy seasoned woodworker. This one day course is spent learning the techniques, with us overseeing completion of your first kitchen or garden implement, and with a couple of hours having a go on a pole lathe.
Whereas on the one-day course you are able to learn the basic techniques, on the two-day version you are able to properly put your newly learned skills to work, selecting from a range of projects that you'd like to develop. As with the one-day version of this course, to start with you are introduced to all aspects of a complete 'tree-to-product' process - from selecting and cleaving green wood ready for turning, to making a variety of small items for the kitchen and garden: spatulas, candlesticks, rolling pins, dibbers, string-lines and similar.
Coming on a two-day course in our Woodland Workshop means you can properly immerse yourself in learning a new skill, in a peaceful, friendly atmosphere. You don't have to attend a course to enjoy our wonderful 'glamping' facilities, which include woodland showers, a sauna yurt and a communal yurt with games and craft library, while the 'Out of Africa' kitchen and pizza oven further help ensure a restful holiday with a difference.

They are run on weekdays (apart from one spoon-carving course in October) and are suitable for men and women, complete novices and experienced woodworkers or crafts-people alike, whether you are keen to discover more about a particular skill or simply want a relaxing break away from it all.
All other longer courses can be started by just one participant starting a new course of their choice on a date that is convenient to them (so long as the day is not already booked for another course). The two hour 'Have a Go' course is the only exception, which needs a minimum of two people. At the end of the course you will have a fully assembled unseated chair along with simple instructions and materials to weave the seat at home. Additional attendees can then join the existing courses up to a maximum of four participants per course.
