Similar to whittling away syntactical superfluities, the artisans behind Dura-Lite Translucent Wood Panels have taken certain liberties with various varieties of wood, leaving but the heart of the heart of the heart, which is so rapturously razor-thin that it allows transmission of light. The versatile translucent veneer panels install in the same manner as conventional glass panels, and they appear as traditional millwork when the lights are off. Milled to under .5 mm thick and laminated between two panels of glass, wood veneer becomes unexpectedly translucent while retaining its natural, organic beauty. To achieve the effect, a big-leaf maple log from the US Pacific Northwest was cut into 0.79 mm-thick veneer strips and laminated each side with non-reflective acrylic. Low-iron glass fins along the west curtain wall bracket the curving maple panels while screening and diffusing natural light.
We offer a wide selection of designer raw and backed wood veneers, including burls, permanently encapsulated within glass.
The west curtain wall features a custom stainless steel frame with low-E clear glass and 25 mm-thick laminated low-iron glass fins; pre-cast concrete panels 450 mm x 450 mm x 60 mm with open joints. The maple liturgical furniture, chairs, hymnal storage and processional bench complement the curving translucent wood panels and the buff-coloured precast stone. Saturation with specialty polymeric materials brings out the richness of the wooden texture whilst providing protection against moisture and harmful UV radiation. The natural beauty of the wood contributes greatly to the sense of timelessness and spirituality.
Many light color raw veneers, such as Mappa Burl and Rotary Maple, combine unique texture with translucency and can be used to create spectacular effects in back-lit walls and light boxes.
