When it comes to decorating the walls of the room, the choices of wall designs are so vast. Today, the purpose of interior wall paneling is purely aesthetic, offering a way of giving a feeling of intimacy to a room. In its most elaborate form, wall paneling is expensive to fit, especially when hardwoods are used. Another option is tongue-and-groove paneling — this is formed of interlocking planks of wood that are fixed vertically to walls.
However, there are plenty of simpler alternatives available that mimic the effect of authentic paneling for a fraction of the cost of the real thing. Again, there is a much simpler alternative, which involves fixing sheets of MDF(medium-density fiberboard) that are machined to look like tongue-and-groove paneling. However, in the past, wall paneling had an essential function, helping to insulate rooms against damp and draught.
For example, in a room with low ceilings where the addition of paneling that reaches a third of the way up the wall will make the ceiling seem higher.
Increasingly, many contemporary designers now use sheets of thin ply screwed to walls to add decorative interest. Interior wall paneling also offers a good way to add interest to otherwise dull, featureless walls.
