I took these photos last year when I did an interview with the wood crafter Jögge at his home. This entry was posted in Other's Creativity and tagged journalistic, photo commision, studio, woodwork. Soldiers here have crafted products of all shapes and sizes, ranging from ordinary to ornate, for units throughout the country.
The conditions of the drawdown and local environment have an immense impact on military operations and the wood shop is no exception. Jones stated that the shop greatly values the neighboring units who they sometimes depend on to donate any wood or materials they may have. The soldiers are midway through their nine-month deployment and although they enjoy working here they say they are ready to get back to their families and put what they’ve learned to use in their civilian jobs.

He also says he visits the local sort yards to salvage any wood coming in from deconstruction and other venues. Army Warrant Officer 1 Randy Jones uses a drill to add wooden letters to a project in the 489th Engineer Battalion’s wood shop on Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan ,Feb.
You need to have a lot of both, especially when you’re working with intricate details and designs,” said Troop.

By this time of day clouds of sawdust have begun to float the in the air over the clamor of saws, drills, sanders, routers and other tools as seven soldiers work away. Eric Pack, a carpentry and masonry specialist assigned to the 760th Engineer Company, works on a project in the 489th Engineer Battalion’s wood shop on Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan, Feb. Christopher Fussell, a horizontal construction engineer assigned to the 124th Engineer Company, works in his father’s wood shop in their hometown of Macon, Ga. Kid will love getting their hands painted for this easy craft which doubles as a keepsake for mom.
