Bona Traffic HD is for hardwood floor owners with an uncompromising attitude towards durability, being green and looking beautiful. Both water based and oil based poly offer good protection; the biggest difference is in appearance.
Most water-based polys contain only 30 to 35 percent solids, compared with the 45 to 50 percent solids in oil-based products. There's debate over which finish is harder, but some experts maintain that hardness isn't necessarily a good attribute of a floor finish. Waterbased coatings typically have half as much VOC content as the traditional oil-based polyurethane finishes. Green: Several of Basic® Coatings waterbased fi nishes meet the strictest of government regulations and LEED requirements. The key to making money in a wood business is to eliminate the middlemen that normally make all the easy money.
The best part of all is that we love to see our wood put into its final use - and hear the new owner's praise.
Making sure the floor is clean, starts at the beginning and is repeated every hour (or less) until the job is done.
We use a biscuit joiner as a Jamb Saw to trim the vertical millwork so the flooring will slide underneath. The first coat of Bonakemi Mega water based polyurethane again, brings out the color and grain. The lower level of the house was badly flooded by Hurricane Sandy and they floors had to be replaced. Significantly outperforms all urethane finishes, including Bona Traffic, in durability at 24 hours.
Since these solids create the protective finish, you need to apply four coats, as opposed to two or three. They also combine with other elements in the presence of sunlight to form smog, a major air pollutant. Happy and Satisfied customers become our volunteer sales staff who will sell our next floor by showing it off to their family and friends.
They won't give wood the rich glow that oil-based polys impart; some even consider them cold looking. They'll slightly accent the character of your wood without giving it the amber tint of an oil-based poly. When I applied waterborne poly recently, I found that it went on so clear I had to use a bottle cap to mark each 8-in.
Then we again sand the floor with 120 screen to smooth off the raised grain from the water based sealer.
