Used wood kilns for sale, fly tying desk designs, tools needed to build a dresser - Test Out

We [Nyle] have equipped a number of sea containers and railroad containers as dry kilns, both conventional and dehumidification, and for sterilization and firewood drying. If you have a question regarding a Knowledge Base article, your best chance at uncovering an answer is to search the entire Knowledge Base for related articles or to post your question at the appropriate WOODWEB Forum.

For more than 125 years, Grit has helped its readers live more prosperously and happily while emphasizing the importance of community and a rural lifestyle tradition. The total drying times for 1 inch thick hardwood lumber boards are usually less than a week. The lumber is dried without the use of "stickers," the spacers that are used with most drying methods. A minimum load of 250 bdft is required to run the kiln, with a maximum capacity of 2000bdft per load.
In order to maximize your space within the kiln (and to reduce your costs), we may have to trim over-length lumber to the above lengths. As the wood dries, insects and other parasites die, and mold is much less likely to develop. Wood fully dried to a specific moisture content in a kiln is harder, stiffer, and stronger than green wood.

Kiln drying is a standard industry practice that changes the dimensional stability of the wood, making it more stable and leaving the wood with a specific, desirable moisture content. When installing a deck, it’s important to know the moisture content of the wood in order to determine how much gap the floor requires for expansion. It was not the insulated variety (I have some of those as well - not used as kilns, though).
Never try to use a standard non-refrigerated shipping container because they are not built of materials that will survive as a kiln. Subscribe to Grit today!  Simply fill in your information below to receive 1 year (6 issues) of Grit for only $19.95!
The lumber is placed in a chamber where the temperature, humidity, and airflow is monitored and controlled for optimum results while the wood dries. Too much moisture, and wood used for decking or other outdoor installations can warp, shrink, or crack when exposed to humidity. Kiln drying is used where air-drying is not feasible, for example in tropical regions where humidity is high, and has some advantages over air-dried woods. Cutting wood to size before it is fully cured can result in inaccurate measurements and additional expense, since you’ll have to replace miss-cuts.

Kiln dried wood has lower moisture content and, as a result, fewer changes due to humidity. Acclimating the wood on a jobsite helps, but cannot fully compensate for extreme changes in humidity, including air humidity, rain, sleet, and snow. Purchasing kiln-dried deck wood ensures that the wood is fully cured and ready for installation upon delivery. Kiln dried wood decking comes with a stable moisture content and will not shrink or expand.
For loads more than about 2000 ft, I spread the load out over the length of the carts, and band it down in shorter stacks. The Pine and Cedar is typically used outside where you want the wood to have a natural moisture level. I was going to use some of the 200 concrete blocks that I have laying around, 2' x 6' x 2', and just pour a concrete floor with tracks for the carts.
If the wood is going outside like the decking, best to have it green or air dried so that it does not swell and expand with the first bit of rain.
