The adhesives are used to glue the pen tubes inside the pen blanks and are also a very popular choice for finishing your pens. Finishes used for pen turning can be very irritating to the nose and throat when being applied. Turning these blanks in various shapes and styles make each pen unique and is really limited to your imagination. Using the following products below during the turning process will help to keep flying wood out of your face, sanding dust and finish fumes out of your lungs. The nice thing about the various blanks is that even if you turn multiple pens out of the same type and batch of blanks, each one will turn out differently.  Wood pens are usually sanded from 150 grit up to 400 or 600 grit, depending on your finish type. Three each of two different types of spacers are profided to separate the pen parts from each other on the mandrel and from the ends of the mandrel, so that you can turn the pen parts without fear of your turning tool hitting anything. Acrylic pens are usually sanded up to 12000 grit, using micro mesh (see below) before finishing.  |
