When it comes to finishes, the usual choices are just the beginning for the experienced professionals at Valley Cabinet.
Wipe stains are applied through a spray application followed by a customized hand-wiping technique, removing the excess material to enhance wood grain and characteristics.
Glazing is available in brown, black and white, and can be applied over any stained or painted finish. A colored material is sprayed over a base stain then removed by highlighting certain areas of each part to achieve the desired look.
Some of the finish material is removed to expose the natural wood beneath the finish, creating a worn look. Viewing colors on a computer screen or printout is unreliable since all monitors and printers are different. To be absolutely sure of your color choice, Horizon recommends that a finished sample door be ordered prior to placing a larger order.
The glaze will change the overall color of the piece slightly, but that is not its primary purpose.
Cans of stain and glaze are available for purchase (see the Accessories tab) so that you can closely match the appearance of other wood items to the Horizon doors.
Although steps are taken to minimize dark end grain, Horizon uses wiping stains which penetrate the wood. Horizon assumes no responsibility for damages or poor color match when finish is applied by the customer. Please come into our ICC Showroom to see actual wood color samples as they may vary from what you see on your computer.
Paint colors are opaque, covering the wood grain and wood characteristics to provide a solid color and very smooth finish. Wish I could tell you what the stain was but it was quite awhile ago and I sent them out to be stained.
The kitchen is stained in fruitwood and I can't remember what we have in the lower level - it's much darker. The alder is softer, so I was worried about the wear and tear when it wasn't more rustic to begin with.
We have white on the upper level (mainly kids rooms) and the master suite and while it is pretty it shows the smudges, dings and dust way more than the stained woodwork.
