Community leaders have said that the school – which was once labelled one of the biggest and most successful schools in England – has hit ‘crisis’ point.
At the end of the week they made a verbal report to senior management, the results of which were released to staff and governors from the Didsbury school earlier this week.
Sources close to the school say the report has highlighted significant concerns surrounding the leadership and management of Parrs Wood.
The school is currently under the dual leadership of heads, David Ashley and Rachel Jones, who together are being paid a salary of almost ?200,000. When the Reporter asked Mr Ashley whether Ofsted, in its verbal report, had said they were considering putting the school on special measures, the headteacher said: “I can’t say anymore than that.
Liberal Democrat councillor Alison Firth called the Reporter and said she had been told the school was going to be put on special measures. Coun Firth, who is the opposition member for education, said: “This is a total crisis for the school.
Pauline Newman, Manchester City Council’s director of children’s services, said that ‘radical improvement’ is needed at the school. She said: “We are fully committed to driving up standards in all of our schools to ensure that children and young people in the city have access to and can benefit from high quality educational provision. Withington MP John Leech said: “It is truly shocking to think about Parrs Wood being put into special measures.
Another source who has close ties with the school, said: “There are severe problems within the management at Parrs Wood and they are just not able to work together.
