Mount bench vise for woodworking, lemon oil wood finish, woodcraft kitchen cabinets calgary, wood band saw blades ireland - For Outdoors
Another option would be to give it its own small bench, built into the 2x6 stud wall on either end of the bench. That's a good idea, Lefty, but I'll probably be using the machinist vise much more often than the Pony. I don't want to commit wall space to a dedicated vise bench until I see how things lay out. I would suggest the opposite based upon the fact that most things that require a vise will also require gross-motor co-ordination, which in my experience is the opposite of which 'handed' you are, as that hand would be your fine-motor co-ordinator. Sometimes you may want to clear the bench for an unobstructed top, especially the front edge, a machinists vise prevents you from doing this. Holding it in a woodworking vise isn't going to work if you do anything more than a bit of hacksawing.
I ,like Jim Ledger,(I like Jim Ledger,as well) prefer a metal vise on it's own, bolted to a stump, which is chained to a post. For sharpening and cutting, this allows decent access from all sides, especially since the vise swivels. It is a replica of the Emmert Pattern maker's vise that doubles as a metal working vise as well. I didn’t have any hardwood kicking around the shop so I decided to mount some plywood pads for starters.Easy InstallationThe Rockler 9? bench vise is very easy to install.
Once I acquired lag screws that were the right length it took about 10 minutes from start to finish to install this vise. Either have someone help you install the vise (hold it while you put the lag screws in) or you’ll need to have some clamps to help hold the vice in place.
The vise comes with an installation template so you can pre-drill the lag bolt holes in the bottom of the bench top.As you can see in my photos I added some reinforcing blocks to the bottom of my table.
The blocks serve a couple functions, first they help strengthen the bench top but they also help keep the vise at the correct height so the jaw doesn’t interfere with the table top.Great Features & Quality at a Great PriceRockler’s 9? Quick Release works great, has great clamping power, is built with top quality materials and still operates just like the shop bench vise your grandfather had! This vise also features a pop-up bench dog.The Rockler 9? Quick Release Vise is what I consider heirloom quality and it’s a vise you’ll only buy once in a lifetime.
